• Treblinka Memorial - Currently, in the area of the camp, the Museum of Struggle and Martyrdom was built. While visiting the camp in Treblinka, you can visit the exhibition dedicated to the extermination camp. A monument built in 1964 commemorates Treblinka and its victims. It resembles the Wailing Wall surrounded by a symbolic graveyard of granite blocks the names of places where the murdered were born are inscribed on it.
  The camp in Treblinka was second after the Auschwitz-Birkenau in terms of number of victims killed in stationary gas chambers and during mass executions. The Germans directed transports from ghettos in occupied Poland to the camp, including the Warsaw ghetto.

In 1942, Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler ordered the establishment of the Treblinka extermination camp. Prior to this, a penal camp for the Polish population, known as ‘Treblinka I’, had been operating since 1940 in the northern part of the Warsaw District. In 1941, this camp was converted into a labor camp. Nearby, the death camp ‘Treblinka II’ was set up to carry out the mass extermination of Jewish men, women, and children.
