Recognized as one of the finest vineyards in Traverse City, guests can enjoy some of the best red and white wines on the peninsula. Red wine enthusiasts can try the Merlot/Cab Franc blend, while white wine lovers can sample the Auxerrois or Dry Riesling. Guests can also enjoy a popcorn flight or a charcuterie board. This is one of the newest and most promising wineries on Old Mission Peninsula.

Hawthorne Vineyards is perhaps the most secluded tasting room on Old Mission Peninsula. The tasting room is perched on a high bluff, offering views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bays. Visitors will be surrounded by nature—no traffic, no nearby neighbors—just vineyards, woods, and water.

Guests can enjoy views of both bays from the tasting room. An outdoor patio area provides a relaxing atmosphere with breathtaking bay views and a cozy outdoor fireplace.

Established in 1991, Bowers Harbor Vineyards is one of the original wineries in the area. Once a horse farm, the estate now features 20 acres of vinifera vines. The inviting tasting room, a former horse stable, is staffed by friendly personnel who will introduce guests to a wide selection of top wines by the glass, bottle, or flight.

Known as the “dog winery,” guests may encounter various dogs at the vineyard.

Bowers Harbor cultivates Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The standout is the Pinot Secco (a sparkling Pinot Grigio) and the Pinot Secco Rose (Magic Mike’s favorite).

Guests can order wine flights and relax on the patio, by the fire pit, in the pavilion, or at tables nestled among the vines.

Chateau Chantal is situated atop one of the highest points on Old Mission Peninsula, offering stunning views of both East and West arms of Grand Traverse Bay.

The highlight here is the rare Ice Wine, which guests can sample. This Ice Wine was even featured at a White House dinner during President Obama’s administration. Guests can customize wine flights, and Chateau Chantal is the only winery on Old Mission Peninsula where guests can purchase a glass of Brandy. Wine enthusiasts can choose from selections like Dry Riesling, the remarkable Pinot Blanc, the popular Naughty Red, and Malbec.

Chateau Chantal is one of the original wineries in Traverse City, Michigan, known for its exceptional wine, outstanding customer service, and unforgettable views.

• Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery - Tour participants always enjoy Brys Estates, one of Michigan’s Top Ten most popular wineries. The secret to Brys’ success might be the Froze’, a frozen wine drink perfect for a hot summer day. Guests can choose from various toppers, and this drink is the winery’s best seller.

Tour participants can purchase the only Sauvignon Blanc on Old Mission Peninsula or try the “porch pounder,” a rare Pinot Noir Riesling blend. Guests can also customize a tasting of various wines and then head to the deck for a fantastic photo opportunity. The lawn bar is open during the summer months, making it one of the best spots in Traverse City to sample wines. Snack packs are also available for purchase.

Another popular attraction is the lavender soaps and lotions, grown by the Brys family and available for purchase.

Bonobo Winery, founded by brothers and longtime Traverse City residents Todd and Carter Oosterhouse, offers stunning views, excellent wines, and top-notch customer service.

Guests can sample expert-level red wines like the BDX and a top-shelf Pinot Noir. White wine enthusiasts can try a sparkling Blanc de Blancs, exceptional Chardonnays, and a Fume Blanc. This is the only winery on Old Mission Peninsula where guests can sample a glass of whiskey! Frozen drink lovers can enjoy a frozen lemonade lavender vodka-based drink. Guests can also savor delicious pretzel bites, an expert-level charcuterie board, or fried goat cheese (food availability may vary). • Grand Traverse Bay - Grand Traverse Bay is an extension of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. It stretches approximately 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and reaches depths of up to 620 feet in certain areas. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, following Green Bay.

Grand Traverse Bay was named by 18th-century French voyageurs who made “la grande traverse,” or a long crossing, across the bay’s mouth.
