Adjacent to Pompeii, this lesser-known Roman villa was the luxurious (Oplontis) retreat of Emperor Nero’s wife.
Situated between the renowned Pompeii and Herculaneum, the smaller site of Oplontis met the same fate. This region was scattered with numerous suburban villas and residences, primarily used for vacations, as well as farms and bath complexes. The archaeological site today includes two Roman villas, the Villa of Poppaea and the Villa of Lucius Crassius Tertius.
