Educational and delicious! - The absolute highlight of our trip to PV! My 8 and 10 year old and I had a wonderful time learning about the process from pod to chocolate cacao and then actually making our own creations. Our guide (Mina?) was fantastic with the kids and we all loved the tour and our creations

Charming Chocolate Tour - We enjoyed a charming chocolate tour for our family of four, and really enjoyed the opportunity to make our own chocolate. One of the founding partners of Planeta Cacao is a professor from the University of Guadalajara in Mexican food culture and heritage. That is evident at the beginning of the tour with the great history of the cacao tree, and subsequent use in Mexico, over the past several hundred years. After getting a chance to see several different types of cocoa trees, we got a hands-on opportunity to make our own chocolate. We roasted cocoa beans in a clay pot, shelled the beans, and then ground them multiple times and made our own chocolate. Amazing how delicious and simple, fresh ground cocoa and sugar can taste. One of the revelations was the owner gave us a taste of chocolate water. As its name implies, it was made with just cocoa powder and water - no milk - and was served room temperature. Super delicious. After making our own chocolate, there is a small little store next to the demonstration kitchen where you could buy Planeta Cacao products. It’s a small operation and the only disappointing news was they don’t deliver their products internationally. That just means we’ll have to come back next time we visit Puerto Vallarta to buy more of their wonderful products. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and highly recommend Planeta Cacao.

One of our favorite activities we’ve done in Vallarta! - This is a FABULOUS experience, and one I recommend for all visitors to the Vallarta area! We learned everything about the history of the cacao bean and how it became the “drink of the gods” in Meso-America, and eventually the dessert we’ve all come to love. We saw everything from the trees to the flowers to the pods to the beans, and then we roasted, peeled, and ground beans and actually made chocolate! Added some sugar and cinnamon, formed our own chocolate bars and then ate them. YUUUUM! The place itself is lovely, and the hosts speak excellent English. You can tell how much they love what they do, and respect the importance of chocolate in the history of Mexico (and the world). And because we literally made chocolate from the bean, we now know what REAL chocolate is supposed to taste like. This was one of the best activities we’ve done in Vallarta. Totally worth it!

Make your own chocolate and learn a lot while you do - This was a fascinating experience! Brisa was knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot about cocoa in the garden and the highlight was making our own. We’ll never look at chocolate the same way again. Highly recommend this. Easy to get to by cab.

A cool earthy not-to-miss experience while in Puerto Vallarta! - Although there was just my friend and me, the staff was so kind and inviting. You'll learn the history of chocolate and actually make your own chocolate from pod to treat. They were a bit short staffed the day we went, so the owners did our tour, so that was a privilege. She even recommended a nearby (walkable) place for lunch after and helped us make sure we could get a ride back into PV. This is about 40 min's (with good traffic) N of PV. It may take a few tries, but you can get an Uber to here. It'll probably be a little further down the road than your driver's Uber shows, but if in doubt you can ask a local for directions. Definitely a great addition to the trip and way to see a small town outside the touristyness of PV. Don't miss it!

You must go on this tour! Well worth the money! - This was so much fun and so interesting. Well worth the money. We learned about the history of the development chocolate in the world and in Mexico. We saw baby blossoms, baby pods right on up to a ripe pod that we picked. We roasted cacao beans and made chocolate! What fun! You have to do this!

So fun -- even solo! - So fun! I went solo and ended up getting to do the whole tour alone. I didn't feel lonely at all! The guides were so fun and helpful and I learned a lot. I made chocolate to bring home! I'd also do this if I were in a group or with a partner.
