Embrace the Storm: A Wild Weekend in Tissamaharama
Tissamaharama, a gem in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, offers a unique blend of adventure and tranquility, even when the weather takes a wild turn. This weekend, as the skies promise a mix of sun and storm, it’s the perfect time to dive into the heart of nature and experience the raw beauty of this region.
Start your day early with a Yala and Bundala Safari adventure. The safari kicks off at 5:00 AM, offering a full day of exploration in two of Sri Lanka’s most renowned national parks. As the morning mist lifts, you’ll find yourself amidst the vibrant wildlife of Yala National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive leopards, majestic elephants, and playful monkeys. The afternoon promises a shift in scenery as you head to Bundala National Park, a haven for bird watchers. Here, the sight of flamingos painting the sky pink is a spectacle not to be missed.
“Great tour at Yala - We had a wonderful day with Merganser Tours visiting Yala National Park. Unfortunately, we did not see any animals in the cat family, but we saw a jackal, elephants, peacocks, monkeys, crocodiles, mongoose, land monitors, deer, painted storks, and so many other birds and animals. The lunch, served buffet style, was very good. Even my picky husband found food he could eat. Henry set up a WhatsApp group for our tour, and kept us informed. Henry was very responsive from the time we booked until we took the tour. I would not hesitate for one moment to recommend Henry and Merganser tours. Thank you Henry for a fabulous day at Yala.” - Reviewed on 2024-11-30
As the afternoon rain showers roll in, the parks transform into a lush, vibrant landscape, offering a different kind of beauty. The rain brings out the earthy scents of the forest, and the sound of raindrops on leaves creates a symphony that enhances the experience. Remember to pack light, breathable clothing and a sturdy umbrella to stay comfortable throughout the day.
Thrills and Thunder: Afternoon Adventures
The afternoon in Tissamaharama is a time to embrace the thrill of the storm. With the weather forecast predicting rain and thunderstorms, it’s an opportunity to witness nature’s power up close. The Yala Safari offers a chance to explore the park’s wilderness in the afternoon, starting at 3:00 PM. As the skies darken and the winds pick up, the park comes alive with activity. The animals, unfazed by the weather, continue their daily routines, offering a glimpse into their world.
“Incredible Day in Yala National Park - We recently did the full day safari at Yala National Park and are so glad we booked via Lakpura. We had friends that did it through another company and had a terrible time. Our driver, Galappaththi from Panchi Safaris, was amazing, such a lovely guy. He clearly loved showing off the animals and the park. He got just excited as us when we spotted something, despite doing safaris for 15 years. I lost count of all the animals we saw throughout the day and we rarely felt crowded, despite the amount of jeeps around, thanks to Galappaththi. We just had the best day and didn’t want it to end.” - Reviewed on 2024-12-13
