Day 1Tour of Ohrid and Ohrid Lake
According to a UNESCO article, the town of Ohrid is one of the Oldest Human Settlements in Europe. Furthermore, it lies on the shores of Ohrid, one of the oldest lakes in the world as well. In addition, it has been in centuries a crossway if different Cultures, traditions, and different invasions.

Called as the

Jerusalem of the Balkan

, Ohrid played a huge role in the spread of Slavic Orthodoxy. It has had 365 Churches, one per each day of the year and dating from the 11th Century.

The tour of Ohrid will consist of 2 main, integral parts, starting with the Old City and

Samuil Fortress

.

Going down the hill, we will be in one of the most picturesque parts of Ohrid, Kaneo bay. Known also as one of the most photographed parts of Ohrid the first ever postcard from Ohrid is exactly an image of the church of St John, exactly on this bay. The tour of Ohrid ends in the low part when the 2 parts of Ohridand also 2 religions are meeting each other. This is a testimonial of tolerance and living among each other.

-City Tour of Skopje
After this tour of Ohrid, we will be heading toward the center of the country and its capital. Skopje is now the largest Economical, Political, and Cultural Centre of the country. With a fascinating history dating back to early Antiquity, the city has been the center of many Ancients and Medieval Kingdoms. Known as

The Memorial City of Statues

, it resembles a huge memorial of history and centuries.

The Iconic Vardar River with its bridges divides and the same connects the 2 faces of the city. Furthermore, on one side, you will discover the Contemporary Skopje, mainly built after the devastating earthquake of 1963.

Famous now for the countless statues and monuments, Skopje is definitely a very attractive city. We will start our tour of Skopje by visiting the Bridges and some of the main statues and its main square. In addition, the

House of Mother Teresa

will be part of our tour. Strolling in the Old part of Skopje, where the friendly vendors will welcome you to try their products we will reach the Fortress of Skopje.

Another aspect of the city is also the religious tolerance and the objects of cult. We will visit 2 of the most symbolic religious building such as the church of

St Klemend of Ohrid

Built close to the center of Pristina, this Library brings value with more than 2000000 material copies dating from the 15th Century. Apart from the fascinating old history, dating from the 15th century, now the most interesting part is its Architecture. As a classic example of the Jugosllavian Brutalism, architecture style, it brought many polemics at the time it was built. Build as a mix of Byzantine, Ottoman, and Serbian styles, this Library brings a simplified review of the whole city in one building. Since 1982 it has been the National Library of Kosovo.

A packed but perfect 2 day trip by a terrific tour operator - To try and cover 2 countries in 2 days is a challenge but Go As Local is such a professional and experienced tour operator that you know you are in good hands. It was just me with driver REDI who was incredible - not just driving but with all his knowledge and thoughtfulness. Even with all the km we covered, we managed wonderful and comprehensive visits to Prizen, Pristina and Skopje on Day 1. We overnighted in Skopje and then made the long drive to Ohrid Lake and Struga on day 2. Redi had great timing, was patient and helpful with my slow walking, answered my myriad of questions and just was the best tour guide. He knew when to take breaks and when to explore more. He was pleasant, charming and spoke perfect English. There was a lot of driving but I just had a fantastic 2 days and cannot thank Redi enough for all he did. In addition Andi at Go As Local is an excellent organizer and the booking and follow up process went perfectly and it was all tailor-made. Definitely deserves to be listed as best tour company in Tirana.

a must see!! - such an amazing route and 100% I recommend. I went alone and had a lovely tour guide and some other tourmates who we became immediate friends with. its two very long days in the car, so come prepared. while you do stop for snacks and water along the way, bring what you desire as some stops are really remote. also, snacks come in handy if you want to skip some of the meal stops to see more stuff. one thing to note, is that if you get car sick easily, or tend to be a "backseat driver", this may be a challenge for you. roads are a bit windy as you're going through some beautiful mountains, and while the driving is done by a local who knows the roads like the back of yourbhand, traffic rules snd driving operate differently here than they do in western Europe and North America. as long as you have a shengen visa, border crossing is fine. the tour takes care of everything. make sure to being your passport though:) the tour can be adapted to those who are less able to walk/slower bi-ped mobility, but I wouldnt recommend it for those using walking aides or wheelchairs. strollers/prams may also find some of the hills in Ohrid and Kosovo a bit steep. I highly recommend wearing shoes good for walking with rubber soles (or stuff good in rain). some of the stones can be slippery, and you'll easily get your 10k/day steps in :) make sure to bring some cash also. some places take card or euro but its easier if you have local currency. Macedonia and Albania use different notes. Kosovo uses the Euro.

North Macedonia and Kosovo - We took a two-day tour of North Macedonia and Kosovo from Tirana, and it was an incredible experience. Our tour guide, Andi, was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional, and he made sure we had a fantastic trip. One thing that really stood out to me was how quickly Andi responded to my emails and made all the necessary arrangements. From the moment I first contacted him, he was prompt and efficient in his communication, answering all my questions and providing detailed information about the tour. Andi was also very accommodating when it came to customizing the tour to our preferences. He listened carefully to what we wanted to see and do, and he made sure the itinerary was tailored to our interests. He was flexible and open to making changes, and he was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that we had the best possible experience. The tour itself was incredible. We visited some truly amazing sites. Andi's knowledge and passion for the region were evident throughout the tour, and he shared fascinating insights and stories about the places we visited.

Great side trip from Tirana to Kosovo & N. Macedonia - I was visiting Tirana for a tour of Albania. Because of the flight schedule I can a few days early. While searching for things to do I found the Go as Local website. Tourism in Albania is a little difficult. I think there must have been a lot of fall out from the pandemic. At any rate Andi was quick to respond to my emails and make arrangements for me. He book this tour for me and was actually my guide on the tour. On this specific trip another quest did the Kosovo portion so we did that on day 1 instead of day 2. We visited Prizren and Pristina in Kosovo. Prizren is very picturesque. Pristina is much more modern. The thing that surprised me most about Kosovo was seeing UN Peacekeepers in both cities. We ate lunch in a restaurant on the square in Prizren which was very good. After visiting Pristina a driver took the other guest back to Tirana and Andi and I proceeded to Skopje. Andi booked rooms for us at the Premium Boutique Hotel. The hotel is centrally located. I ate dinner at Pcela. The included breakfast in the morning was good. We started our day in N. Macedonia with a tour of Skopje. Once finished we drove to lake Ohrid. In Ohrid we did a tour of the city and Samuel's Fortress. We also stopped at Church of St. John at Kaneo which has some exceptional frescos (unfortunately photographs are not allowed). Andi asked what I wanted for lunch. I said I wanted to try the fish from the lake. We went to a a restaurant called Malo on the Albanian side of the lake were we had a feast featuring the lake fish, Koran, cooked in a clay pot with tomatoes and onions. This was accompaniied by a variety of salads, side dishes and bread. Truely an outstanding meal. I want to commend Andi for being a great traveling companion. He was able to converse on a wide variety of topics. He went out of his way to accommodate my requests - such as the great lunch, and taking me to some specific shops for souvenirs. The one caution for this trip - it really covers a lot of distance so a lot of time is spent driving. But if you want to see these places this is the shortest time possible. I highly recommend this tour, Andi as a guide and tour company manager.
