Additional Information

A half day is all it takes to explore Kruja, Albania’s former capital. Situated close to Tirana, Kruja makes an excellent day trip from the main city. The majority of visitors are drawn to the impressive old market to shop for beautiful souvenirs like carpets, rugs, and bags. Kruja boasts one of the oldest fortresses in the Balkans, which is a sight to behold in its own right. The Scanderbeg Museum, dedicated to a military leader who is regarded as a national hero by many Albanians, is housed within the castle’s walls. Tirana is one of the country’s most exciting locations to visit. A tour of Tirana should at a minimum cover Scanderbeg Square, the city’s hub, and a leisurely walk down Pedonalja, the main pedestrian thoroughfare, which is dotted with cafés, bars, theatres, and cinemas. Nearby are BunkArt2, a museum dedicated to those who fell victim to the Communist regime, and the National Gallery of Arts, which showcases works by some of the most renowned artists.
