Additional Information

The Tijuca National Park, a Brazilian stronghold for comprehensive nature conservation, is recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. It’s the most frequented park throughout Brazil, centrally situated within Rio. Due to its non-continuous terrain, it’s integrated within the urban perimeter of the city. The Tijuca Forest, with its intriguing blend of natural habitat and urban lifestyle, constitutes a significant part of Rio’s history. Hosting an array of unique features, it’s one of Rio’s prime eco destinations, clothed in lush Atlantic Rainforest and abundant in striking flora, fauna, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, caves, and mountains. On our signature Eco Tour, we’ll explore the Forest Sector’s key attractions, trekking through the verdant streets and trails of the National Park ranging from effortless to moderate difficulty.

  • Recommendations: wear light clothes and hiking shoes, bring a small backpack with water, snacks, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, swimming suits and sandals, dry clothes for changing, towel, cap or hat, sunglasses and cash for extras.
  • Short hiking sections are required for this tour. May include stairs or uphills.

Great Experience with Rio Xtreme - I did this hike and a whitewater rafting trip and both were great experiences. The guide was great and provided transportation on time. It was a lot of fun and for a good price! I would definitely do another activity with Rio Xtreme if I ever find myself in the Rio area again! PS: I also went before the time it says, but that is the earliest it allowed me to select.

Amazing Hike and Views - We had an incredible experience hiking up Tijuca’s Peak! The trail is a shaded route through the rain forest for most of the hike, before finishing the last bit of the hike in an open area that provides incredible views of Rio and the surrounding areas. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and set a perfect pace for the hike. We’d highly recommend!

Great hike, Great guide - Rafael was an awesome guide, spoke English very well and was very informative. The hike was an easy uphill zigzag to the top and the views are to die for. Rafael also stoped on the side of the road so we could take photos with the local monkeys, which I was very happy about it actually made my day. Pick up was on time and I received the confirmation email with all the details of the tour in a timely manner. Very good reliable company. Would’ve done more hikes with them if we had more time in Rio.

Very accommodating guide - The guide speaks good English and was super friendly and accommodating. He picked us up at the hotel on time and dropped us off at a restaurant since we didn't want to go back to the hotel. I thought there were more people joining us but it's just my husband and I, which worked out quite well. We got to stop at the Vista Chinesa and Cascatinha Taunay as long as we wanted and took lots of pictures. He introduced the history around the place at every stops, and we chatted everything from politics to food and culture. During the hike, he adjusted the pace to our needs and even carried my backpack for a while. He actually recommended that restaurant which wasn't on our radar. We were very pleased with the experience. I booked two other activities with RioXtreme, one of which was cancelled and the other was delayed a day, both due to poor weather. The email communication was sufficient and the refund for the cancelled activity was prompt. Before I booked this hiking tour I was looking at another site. I noticed that in the description it says "passing by" Vista Chinesa and Cascatinha Taunay. I wondered if we would be able to stop there and take pictures so I emailed them and asked. To my surprise they responded: "We're passing by because this is a hiking tour and not sightseeing tour, ok?", which really wasn't the smart thing to say... RioXtreme on the other hand was super nice. If I ever go to Rio again, I'll book with them for sure.

Hiking in Rio - Professional and friendly guide. Pick up/drop off option at your location is very convinient especially if you visit Rio for the first time. Pick up was on time. Averall a very positive experience: good and prompt communication via email and very affordable. The staff will go extra way to accomodate you or solve any issues due to the weather or any other unforseen circumstances. I would definitely use RioXtreme again.

Very good taster of the forest - Bruno was very accommodating and knowledgeable in the forest & park. We had a group of mixed nationalities but we were lucky & thankful that Bruno spoke in English. We could have stayed longer in the park but the timing of the tour did not allow - 4 hours is not enough. It wasn’t clear if we needed swimsuits so we chose not to take them and missed the opportunity to stand under a waterfall. We didn’t get to see the wildlife we wanted (not Bruno’s fault; he looked for monkeys).
