Highlights
- Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre - Our Family experience is a one hour activity, introducing you to all the birds of on our site which includes owls, eagles, falcons, vultures and kestrels. We will learn all about their habitats and their behaviour and show the family how to fly the birds, there will even be time for a few pictures as our birds love the cameras. All set in Cumbrian countryside by our expert Cumbrians who have farmed in this land for over a century.
Our Trip Advisor sessions start at 9am, but if you wish to move this to another time you can do. Please call us on 07900 531032 to do that.

Nestled in the rural area of Cumbria, we provide travellers with a unique glimpse into local wildlife and the significance of falconry in English history. Learn why England’s kings held Falconers in high esteem, and the integral part they played in Medieval times.
We offer a bespoke experience, peppered with abundant local insights on Carlisle and the nearby Lake District. Families are offered a unique opportunity to interact closely with our variety of birds, out in the natural setting - a perfect excuse for a family day out.
A family activity package is designed for 2 adults and 3 children. If you intend to bring extra adults for this booking, you can pay for them upon your arrival.

Amazing fun, unique experience that can be enjoyed from 4 to 84 and more! - This was a really enjoyable family activity that was interesting and fun across the generations. We were a family group from 4 to 84 years, not previously particularly into birds but we couldn’t fail to be fascinated. Gary was confident, knowledgeable and entertaining and we were able to get really close to the birds, learn about them and fly them. We can’t recommend this enough - excellent value and a really unique experience. Amazing!

Wonderful experience as a birthday gift. - Bought an experience for my parents ( 78 and 86) for mums birthday. They really enjoyed every single minute. Gary the owner was wonderful with them, helping them with deckchairs to sit in and meeting them at the car. They loved meeting the birds and flying them and Gary was so patient and kind with them. My parents can't wait to go back and do it all again. This is a wonderful experience, even for an 87 year old! Thank you so much.

Most Awesome Experience - So I bought this as a duo-gift for our sons 30th - he flew the birds, and my husbands Christmas gift - he loves photographing birds. Had to re-arrange at very short notice due to weather, but there was no problem and Gary was very obliging.
Both our son and my husband had the most amazing time. J flew several birds, and they both learnt so much from a highly informative and very knowledgeable host - Gary. So many beautiful birds led to many amazing photos, and the memories are sure to last. We are looking at possibly organising a stay - they do this too!!

An amazing, engaging, very personalized visit. Can’t recommend highly enough!! - This was an absolutely splendid visit. Gary is very personable and engaging, and quickly oriented his commentary and activities to the interests of our family. The birds are gorgeous and well trained to interact with visitors, and Gary has a great program to allow both birds and visitors to have their needs met. I cannot say enough good about this visit. Highly recommended for wildlife lovers and people with anywhere from limited to a serious interest in falconry.

An owl walk in the countryside that was absolutely special. - The smile on our grandsons face was absolutely priceless. Whilst he was a bit unsure at the start, his confidence in flying the birds just grew as the session progressed. Even when Pedro was sitting on his glove and the barn owl flew by he did not flinch. It was a great setting and a wonderful way to share a quality experience together across the generations. Thank you Gary, we will definitely come back.

Blooming fab - Truly fab time with Gary, he is both clearly an expert and all things falconry and a fab host to boot. I took my took kids, 11 and 14 and both enjoyed it immensely. The tour starts with a walk around the various aviaries where Gary gives you a rundown of the birds, habits etc Then you get given a large leather glove each gets to fly them! We flew a Hariss hawk and two owls, a really ace experience, that turned me into a big kid.

Hawk walk - Great morning meeting the birds in their enclosures and finding out about the owls, hawks, eagles and vultures. Walked with the hawk through the private woods and flew the barn owl in the grounds. A great experience.

Great experience. - Three generations, ranging in age from 13 to 83, all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Gary and Keith made us all feel welcome, especially my father, who has dementia. We were enthralled from beginning to end. Totally recommend.
