Highlights
  • The Grand Palace - Passing by boat along the canals gives you a firsthand impression of the scenic life along Bangkok’s waterways. En route we stop at and visit Bangkok’s best known landmark, the enchanting Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). Afterwards cross the Chao Praya River with the public ferry and walk to the gates of the serene temple complex of Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Royal Grand Palace.

If there is one must-see sight that no visit to Bangkok would be complete without, it’s the dazzling, spectacular Grand Palace, undoubtedly the city’s most famous landmark. Built in 1782 - and for 150 years the home of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government - the Grand Palace of Bangkok is a grand old dame indeed, that continues to have visitors in awe with its beautiful architecture and intricate detail, all of which is a proud salute to the creativity and craftsmanship of Thai people. Within its walls were also the Thai war ministry, state departments, and even the mint. Today, the complex remains the spiritual heart of the Thai Kingdom.

Additional Information

Positioned on the western banks of the Chao Phraya River, is an area known as Thonburi. Located on the right side of the waterway, this locale has witnessed minimal alteration due to modern-day advancements. It provides a glimpse into what life in Bangkok was like in the early 20th century, back when it was also referred to as the ‘Eastern Venice’. Wooden homes constructed on pillars, elevated to brace the high floodwaters of the torrential rainy season; locations that are reachable only via boat; and youngsters using the river as their expansive playground - these elements illustrate life in Thonburi, which has remained relatively stagnant since its inception.

  • At least 2 people are required for this activity to take place.
  • There are strict Dress Code for visiting the Grand Palace as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is Thailand’s most sacred site.

Interesting temple and palace tour - We had a very enjoyable and informative morning tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned lots about this amazing city and country’s history. We started with an exhilarating long tail boat ride across the Chao Praya and its waterways. We stopped to feed the catfish, which was amazing. Our guide provided us with an interesting commentary on the sights that we saw. I would thoroughly recommend.
