Mount Olympus Waterfalls and the Ancient Ruins of Dion – A Worthwhile Trip - A wonderful day trip! Eva, our guide, was fantastic - kind, informative, and really organised.
The morning hike to the Mount Olympus waterfall was a highlight. It’s not intense—just a few “challenging” patches, but nothing serious. The water was icy cold, but I soaked my feet and loved it! There’s time to explore a bit, even go up above the main pool if you want.
At Dion, we made the mistake of walking around the whole wall—next time I’d go straight into the ruins. A walking guide there would’ve been helpful, but the info boards are good enough. We then went to the Mt Olympus Info Centre, were a short film played followed by walking around beautiful photos of nature and history of the mountain. As plant pathologist, I found the fungi fascinating!
We ended with free time in Litochoro, had a bite to eat and a relaxed walk, although there was the option to hike to next waterfall - we had a very hot day, 35 C. Good value - highly recommend.

Great guide, stunning scenery! - Tour guide was great!
She was well informed and engaging. She assisted those who needed help along the trails. Before each stop she gave a summary of what we would see.
Was worth the time and $.

Wounderful day in the nature - It was a wonderful day in the nature, green woods and a beautiful waterfall. The snowcovered Mount Olympus was spectacular.
The tour was excellent but your payment system is a hassle, as we found out with our Pella Tour. We had to cancel and rebook the whole thing in order to make sure you would not kick us off the tour, because you could not handle the payment.
This is not surprising, since most Credit Cards these days use dual confirmation system where the cardholder has to reconfirm the payments.
We apreciate that you want to withdraw the amount as late as possible but this just does not work. We had to go through the whole reservation process once more.

Great experience - Our guide ( I am very sorry but I can not remember the name I was combining work with leisure and I was not fully focused🙌🏼) but she was amazing! I have Vertigo and really panic to highs and I did not think this tour would have some highs ( well it’s an easy one but for people like me could be too much😌) she was holding my hand. Hugging me, encouraging me…in a super sweet and caring way , without her I would not be able to experience this amazing trip.
It’s a real pleasure meet such human beings as this lady, it makes you trust a bit in the world .

Can be a large group. ... - Can be a large group. There were over 40 of us but it wasn't a hindrance ex at on point. Dion was interesting and the park fascinating! Guide was very knowledgeable but not overbearing. Good amount of info but also plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and the trip.

Average tour - It was an average excursion; you mostly pay for the bus ride. We did a hike and sat at a nice restaurant towards the end where we enjoyed a meal. A bit more time would have been appreciated there as it was a lovely little town. Our guide was pleasant but inexperienced. We missed the high energy of a tour guide who grabs the attention of his or her group. All in all a decent tour but not unmissable.

Average experience - Beautiful views but admin and organisation leave a lot to be desired.
When we arrived at the pick-up point we realised that people for a number of tours were meeting up at the same point all mixed-up together. We were directed to the correct leader for our tour but she kept ignoring me when I queued to check in. The big disappointment started as soon as we got in the coach. The guide said that because there had been a landslide during the night, we would now not be going to the mountain refuge on Mount Olympus any more (I have been unable to verify this) but would be going to Litochoron instead, where I had been before. She then said that the order in which we would be visiting the tour locations would also be changed without giving a reason why. This meant that rather than going straight to ancient Dion, we first went to the waterfall. The result was that there were no public toilets available for hours. The guide also unilaterally decided to leave the swim in the waterfall out of the itinerary completely and take the group to a church instead (which was not part of the itinerary). We had to ask about this, so that we could do it, as it was one of the main reason I booked this particular tour.
The swim in the Agia Kori and the time that we spent there completely on our own ended up being the highlight of the tour. There is also a picnic spot there, if you cannot be bothered to swim. The disappointment with the organisation carried on when we realised at least some of the information the tour guide gave through the microphone was false and when we got to Litochoron she recommended a place for lunch that ended up being terrible. When we got back on the coach a couple told us that they had asked her what was her real recommendation and she recommended a completely different place that was completely empty. It just doesn't seem right. The timing of the lunch was also left until too late.
The time allowed at ancient Dion was not sufficient to see the whole site, which is effectively two sites together, a Macedonian and a Roman one next to it.
I'd used Ammon Express before when it was a small-groups tour agency with good results. But it seems that the business has grown over the years and is now within the category of mass tourism. The standard has slipped. Another point is their website. I had to try 3 times before I managed to book the tour and when we wanted to change the date, there was no way to do it. I had to cancel one booking and rebook. I then had to chase 3 times for the refund, which should really have been done automatically. Speaking to their staff at the office was a struggle. Even though I said I could barely hear them over the phone they made no effort to speak up. Would I book with them again? I'd try and avoid it.
If you have never been to Greece before, this should be good, but if you have more specific expectations, don't expect much. I am aware that hiring a young tour guide costs less but I would have preferred a more experienced one for our tour. Pack your own lunch. Best option.
