A Temple, a Lake, and a Feast

When I first heard about the Khao Sok Adventure tour, I was intrigued by the promise of exploring both jungle and lake. As someone who thrives on budget-friendly adventures, I knew this was a must-do on my Southeast Asia itinerary. The day began with a visit to Wat Mahathat Wa Chi Ra Mongkhon, a stunning Buddhist temple that immediately set the tone for the day. Our guide, Bao, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing stories and insights that made the temple’s history come alive. The intricate details of the temple’s architecture were mesmerizing, and I found myself lost in the vibrant murals and serene atmosphere.

Next, we made our way to the Cheow Lan Lake viewpoint. The sight of the emerald waters surrounded by towering limestone cliffs was nothing short of breathtaking. Lunch at Phutawan Raft House was a delightful surprise. The spread of Thai dishes was a feast for the senses, and the staff’s attention to my seafood allergy was a thoughtful touch. After lunch, we fed corn to the local fish, which was surprisingly fun, and then took to the water in kayaks. Paddling through the serene surroundings was the perfect way to soak in the beauty of the lake.

Bamboo Rafting and Unexpected Delights

The final stop of the day was the Khlong Sok Bamboo Raft. This unexpected gem began with a unique experience of tea and coffee boiled in bamboo vessels, served in complimentary bamboo cups—a cool keepsake to remember the day by. The bamboo raft cruise down the creek was pure magic. As we glided through the water, we spotted a monkey, and our raft captain tossed it a treat, much to our delight. He also pointed out a snake coiled in a tree, adding a touch of adventure to the serene setting.

At one point, the wind picked up, scattering leaves across the water, creating a scene straight out of a movie. It was moments like these that made the day truly unforgettable. Bao’s attention to detail and genuine care for our experience tied everything together, ensuring we were comfortable and entertained throughout the day.
