Melvin es Excelente - Melvin was our tour guide. He is terrific. He took his time to explain the history of Iximché by giving us a tour of the museum and answering our many questions. Melvin is very knowledgeable about the various clans and how the cultures, traditions, and languages have survived.

Enjoyable tour - The tour of the Mayan property was an hour long. The ruins are not extensive, but it was great learning about how the buildings were laid out. Our tour guide is from the area, so he had much info to share. Sacrifices and rituals occur at rhe site on a daily basis, although none were happening while we were there. Still, lit candles were there in the area where the rituals occur, meaning that they had taken place recently. The sacrifices are not at any specific time of the day, the local people come whenever it’s convenient or whenever they feel it’s needed. I like to use the time traveling to and from tours to watch the world pass by outside the window - that allows me to see more of the country. The ride from Antigua was long (about 1 1/2 hours each way), but the scenery was great to see. Look up in the mountains to see the farming that occurs horizontally on steep cliffs. I wondered how the farmers work the land at that angle. The towns are full of small businesses, side by side, all together in a small space, with buildings painted bright colors to distinguish one business from another. Much of the mountainous terrain looked like desert with scrub plants, but that changed with various elevation changes. Be prepared for the roads having curve after curve. All in all, an enjoyable tour.

Beautiful and educational - It was a wonderful experience. The ride to the ruins was pleasant. The guide was knowledgeable. The ruins are beautiful. The only thing bad was that the entrance ticket was not included. Even though it was stated in the fine print, I never read it. It was definitely not obvious. So I found myself in a pickle because I didn't have cash and all what they accepted was local currency. Luckily, another guest lend me the money.

Very nice experience… The... - Very nice experience… The actual tour is a little light and the overall price seems to be inflated in comparison with other, much longer and more intense tours we took. It is also weird that the entrance fee is not included. Not the point of money, just an inconvenience.

Overall, it was a... - Overall, it was a successful tour. I decided to go on a Spanish speaking tour to practice speaking Spanish. It’s a one hour car ride and I feel like I really learned a lot. The people were really nice. I ended up having an English speaking tour once we got there and the other two women were also very nice. The tour was good and I learned a lot. The guides were very helpful but the tour was not as multidimensional as the type of tours that go to three or so places in a day. It was interesting to learn about the Maya civilization of many years ago. Historical buffs were especially like this tour.
