- KIMONO TEA HOUSE MAIKOYA Karasuma Shijo - Experience our award-winning tea ceremony that combines cultural enjoyment with meaningful learning. Under the guidance of a professional tea master and our friendly staff, participants will observe each step and understand the significance of the tools, movements, and traditions involved. Gain insights into the history of the tea ceremony, Kyoto’s cultural heritage, and the etiquette passed down through generations.
Participants will then have the opportunity to prepare their own bowl of matcha using premium green tea, whisked under the tea master’s guidance. This hands-on experience allows participants to embrace the calm, focus, and hospitality central to Japanese tea culture. A selection of elegant kimonos is available, and our staff will assist with dressing to ensure a polished appearance.
Please note that children under 6 are not allowed. If your group includes a child under 6, we kindly request that you do not book this activity.
Tripods are not permitted during the ceremony. Photo and video recording may be restricted—please adhere to the tea master’s instructions regarding appropriate timing and manners.
