  • The initial view during the journey displays the ruins of the Ujarma fortress, which was a vital hub in archaic times.
  • A brief halt at the apex of the Gombori pass (elevation 1620m).
  • Your initial exploration will be at the Old Shuamta monastic complex (V-VII AD). This monastic compound comprises a 5th century basilica and a pair of domed churches dating back to the 7th century. The largest domed church shares architectural similarities with Jvari monastery. All structures within the monastery have been constructed with chiseled stone and were deserted in the 16th century.
  • The subsequent stopover is at the Shumi winery. Here, you have the chance to tour the wine museum, savor some wine, and enjoy a light refreshment.
  • The Tsinandali museum, situated adjacent to the Shumi winery, houses Aleksander Chavchavadze’s manor featuring a splendid garden, Georgia’s oldest wine cellar, and captivating tales about Aleksander and his lineage.
