Additional Information

Please be aware that the OVERVIEW description, created by Viator (whose representatives have never participated in this activity), refers to this as both a tour and scavenger hunt and suggests I will be presenting on the river’s ecosystem. Regrettably, these inaccuracies are difficult for a provider to modify.

This activity is excellent for those who are the right fit, and I have no intentions of misleading anyone. I engage and communicate with my guests via WhatsApp.

Please understand, this is not a conventional hiking tour. As a host of scavenger hunts in Taos and Santa Fe, I clarify that this experience does not align with the typical dynamism of a scavenger hunt. It’s less hurried, involves creativity, and focuses on fostering a bond with nature through creative exercises.

While I do provide intriguing information about the region, I’m not a trained biologist capable of giving a detailed account of the river’s ecosystem.

Keep in mind if you’re planning to participate solo, while I’m more than happy to host you, I can’t guarantee a group for you to join. If you’re planning to book alone, being comfortable with solitude on hiking trails is an essential prerequisite.

  • I do not recommend this adventure for solo travelers. No team mates can be provided for you.
  • The designed course does take you on a hiking trail that is only moderate and about 4 miles and you are encouraged to go slow. However if someone is drawn to this experience but cannot hike, an altered version of this experience without hiking will be customized.Feel free to contact your host with questions.
  • Guests understand there is no refund for cancelations less than 24 hours prior to the game.

Best Rio Grande excursion in Taos!!! - Tara’s personalized expedition for our family went well beyond our expectations! We were seeking to recharge and reconnect, and explore Taos nature in a unique way off the beaten path. Tara’s well thought out plan for us definitely did the trick! With her local connections, we were able to experience some beautiful private areas along the river owned by a wonderful artist couple who allowed us to explore on our own as long as we wanted. The hiking trails were also amazing and different from the norm. You can go a short distance or longer—whatever you’re up for. The mission was full of diverse activities that suit any personality, and you can choose as little or as much as you want. This experience was absolutely perfect and got our vacation off to a great start! Thank you, Tara!!!

Fun and Creative Excursion! - A very fun creative and physical activity. We spent 45 minutes to an hour visiting with Arthur Glenhill studio and explored the artwork on the grounds of the banks of the Rio Grande. We also viewed the artwork in his house, chatted with his lovely wife Diane and completed our creative missions assigned by Tara. We then headed off to our hike, it was a hike of moderate difficulty, 4 miles, nice views above the river, watch the cactus, and the temps. If it’s going to be hot, go earlier in the morning but know that that times are flexible. Great time!

Winding road to Happiness! - We really enjoyed being out in nature and seeing such a beautiful view from the top of the hills. Tip: If going in the summer go early in the morning so you don’t get too hot. -were a hat, lotion, bring water

An afternoon like no other - My 11-year-old son and I had a wonderful, connective nature experience under Tara’s creative guidance. Off the beaten paths of Taos, and thanks to Tara’s thoughtful prompts, the two of us laughed, gained insights into each other, appreciated beauty, talked, created, shared silence, and made sweet memories that will last a lifetime. I’m so grateful for this unique experience.

Creative Exploration and Scavenger Hunt Through Pilar and the Lower Rio Grande. - This was a fabulous experience for our family! Avid hikers, we wanted a new way to explore outside and this was it! Tara was amazing! She provided fun and interesting challenges for our family to complete as she let us on a beautiful journey through sculptures, the gorgeous Rio Grande, and a snowy hike. We had our 6-year-old and 8-year-old with us, as well as our two dogs. We loved the beauty, the peacefulness, and the creativity of this scavenger hunt. Tara was attentive and available to make sure we had a great experience. If you are looking to try something new and experience nature in a different way, we recommend this hunt!!

AMAZING!!! - I am a traveling artist from Texas & this listing caught my attention right away, but never did i think it was going to be such a beautiful unfolding journey it ended up being. This section of the Rio Grande is absolutely stunning!! & i felt myself enjoying it in a deeper way with every step & creative exercise. I am grateful to Tara for offering such an amazing experience. Ill definitely be returning to explore more, & even camp in this special place!

Loved chatting with... - Loved chatting with Arthur about art and life and seeing his work. We probably would not have found that gorgeous hike on our own.
