Additional Information

The name evokes an almost magical essence, bringing to mind an immense, animal-rich volcanic basin, where the illustrious big five and numerous other species freely wander. Yet, there’s more - the Ngorongoro Conservation Area includes not only the iconic caldera but also encompasses peaks, water bodies, woodlands, and expansive African savannas! At the center of it all is the renowned crate, and sprawling across a vast 8300 square kilometers. Originating as a segment of the Serengeti National Park, the need for pasturage by the local Masai’s flocks led to its reclassification as a Tanzanian conservation zone for African fauna.\n\nThe aggregate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area offers a bounty of natural wonders but its most treasured element is, undeniably, the namesake crater - a region of 265 square kilometers, with a depth of 610 meters and a diameter of 19 kilometers. The crater’s edge stands an impressive 2286 meters above sea level. Nestled within its basin is a diminutive soda lake, named Lake Magadi, and it is believed that the crater is home to a population of 3000 animals.
