This mountain is a Stratovolcano and it last erupted between October and December 1910, in a minor event. The peak of Mt.Meru stands at an elevation of 4566m/15220ft above sea level. The maiden ascent to the summit happened in 1904, accomplished by Fritz Jäger before its last eruption. The mountain is positioned 70km to the west of Mt.Kilimanjaro, with each offering magnificent views of the other under clear skies. Mt.Meru is also reputedly the ninth or tenth tallest mountain in Africa and is a dormant volcano. The fertile slopes sit above the sweeping savannah grasslands, and they support a forest teeming with wildlife such as Elephants, Birds, Buffalo, and monkeys. Today, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Arusha National Park.
