Highlights

Tarangire National Park - Situated to the southwest of Arusha town, Tarangire National Park is recognized as the second-largest ecosystem park in the region. It derives its name from the Tarangire River that meanders through the park, providing a reliable water source for wildlife throughout the year, even in the arid periods. Spanning an area of 2850 square kilometers, the park is distinguished by its towering baobab trees and a significant population of elephants, earning it the title of ‘home of the African elephant.’ The ecosystem of Tarangire is particularly remarkable due to the migratory patterns of its wildlife; animals relocate during the wet season and return in the dry season. This seasonal movement is attributed to the soil composition, which renders the grass less palatable and the terrain muddy, leading to hoof diseases in antelopes.
