A truly memorable trek! - Mount Meru gets overlooked in favour of Kilimanjaro, but - although lower - it offers wonderful wildlife sightings on the lower slopes on the mountains (giraffes, warthogs and bushbucks), and some challenging terrain near the peak (involving climbing over sharp rocks). Meru Slopes was really efficient and helpful in suggesting and itinerary and answering all my queries regarding the logistics - in particular, Kelvin Bonith was an excellent point of contact for me throughout the process. A highlight of my time in Tanzania!

Unforgettable Mount Meru experience with wonderful team - Before going into details, we very highly recommend this trek with Meru Slopes. We went for a 4d3n trek on Mount Meru during our honeymoon trip in Tanzania, which culminated in a New Year's Day summit with a million-dollar sunrise view! It was an unforgettable experience for my wife and I. We had an excellent team of seven with both of us, and they made the trip very comfortable for us (we hadn't gone on any treks for 5 and 10 years respectively). Our guides Nico and Yona accompanied us on the way up from Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut and then Saddle Hut for the first two days. These two parts of the trek are led by the armed park ranger (randomly-assigned) for safety reasons. We observed that our guides were the only ones who carried a 6-litre water bottle for us to refill if we ran out - no one else did this. These two segments were fairly easy. After settling down in Saddle Hut, our guides took us to Little Meru for some nice views, and we even picked up some useful Swahili words from them during the walk. Our cook Shorti made us very good meals throughout our trip. Quantity was a bit much though, as they had to make sure everyone has enough to eat, but we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Our waiter Paulo was also excellent in taking care of all our needs, and is also very fluent in English. We started the summit at 1am and arrived in time for sunrise. It was quite an arduous trek in the dark - cold with strong winds, damp as we walked through moving clouds, sometimes sand in our eyes, and a tricky trek thanks to lots of rocks and gravel. After 30mins on the summit taking in the view and lots of photos, we headed back to Saddle Hut (tough too as it was a little slippery with the loose stones), making it back in 4 hours (considered slow). This is not a very tough trek but certainly not a walk in the park either. However, there was no need for us to worry as our guides did a thorough visual equipment check the day before at our hotel to ensure that we had everything. They even brought a spare coat along for us just in case. We had a good slow and steady pace, so it wasn't too tiring. Very good navigation by our guides too, god knows how they find their way in the dark! On our way down from Saddle Hut we both had painful knees, making it a pretty horrible experience during the descent. Our team was very thoughtful though and prepared hot water for us to massage our legs with to ease the pain. Did I mention the view? Kilimanjaro sits majestically in the background throughout your entire trek, easily visible on clear days. There is a viewing platform at Miriakamba Hut where you can see Kilimanjaro to the east with the Momella lakes and the sunrise. You get an even better view from the top of Meru: we were fortunate to get perfect weather, and we saw Kilimanjaro next to a rising morning sun, a sea of clouds below, the triangular shadow of Mount Meru itself behind us, and also the majestic ridge leading from Rhino Point to the summit, with the volcanic ash crater next to it. Frankly if you want to enjoy Kilimanjaro, we figure it's better to admire it from Mount Meru than to climb it for 6-9 days. Overall it was a very memorable trek. We highly recommend this to anyone visiting Tanzania with a few days to spare. If you are physically very fit you can also complete this in three days. The views and experience are totally worth it.

Wonderful experience !! - We did the 4 day trekking with Silvery’s team and it was FANTASTIC!! It was the best trek I ever did in my life. Challenging but we managed thanks to Silvery, Leonardo and the rest of the crew. Silvery even lent me his gloves because mine were not warm enough. Leonardo was also so kind and helpful. The food was great and more than enough, we were never hungry. Highly recommend this tour group!
