Tallinn

Submerged penitentiary. After the cessation of activities at the prison working site, it became inundated. Many structures and pieces of machinery were abandoned and now can be explored through freediving. The underwater forest and towering underwater fences add a spooky layer to the site.

Unforgettable freediving in sunken prison Estonia - Unforgettable freediving in the middle of an abandoned prison, houses and forest. The depth reaches up to 14m and you can swim inside houses, in the middle of a sunken forest, or just look up and down at an abandoned city. The instructor is very loyal, helps and tells you what to do and how. An unforgettable experience.

A thrilling dive into the sunken prison - My freediving experience at Rummu Quarry was nothing short of exhilarating. The instructor was professional and safety-conscious, making sure that I felt comfortable throughout the experience. Prior to the dive, the instructor was also very responsive to questions and requests. The 1°C cold temperature on land and the ‘warm’ 7°C waters didn’t dampen my experience. Nonetheless, for divers who are more used to the tropical regions (e.g. Bali, Cebu etc), I’d suggest to join at a warmer time.
