Does "Street Food" Mean Lack of Planning? - My family and I have done many food tours in various cites around the world and except for this tour the food tours we have taken in the past were well coordinated and well planned so that the tour went smoothly. Unfortunately, this tour was the exception. Initially, we could not find the guide at the meeting point. We were there early, and circled around the specified meeting location, but could not find the guide. We contacted the tour operator and they reiterated the intended start location--which is where we were standing--and didn't provide any means for directly contacting the guide. We continued to walk around and eventually stumbled upon our guide about 15 minutes after the specified start time. We had our first bite about 25 minutes after the tour start time, but then things really slowed down and the operator's failure to properly coordinate with the vendors became evident. The tour rapidly devolved to a search for locations that had room for our group and/or were not closing. This was made more difficult by the fact that several of the vendors didn't allow for individuals under 21 to enter and we had 3 in our group that were under 21. This exclusion wasn't in the tour description, but it shouldn't have been a limitation because the vendors could have simply provided takeout for us to eat outside like we did at several locations. Instead, the shops simply sent us on our way and we had to look for another venue. Ultimately, after 3 hours, the stores were closing, our guide was exasperated, and tour ended. I believe we made it to 4 of the 6 stops on the official itinerary during the 3 hour period, but the overall experience seemed like more standing around waiting for food than actually eating food. Compared to other food tours, which seemed to be well coordinated with the vendors so that there was little to no waiting when you arrived, this tours seemed to be completely uncoordinated and the guide and/or operator didn't seem to a rapport with the vendors to facilitate the tour. Maybe our experience is consistent with the "street food" aspect and should have been expected, but it was much different from any of the many other food tours I have been on.
