- Washi Lab TOKYO - Our workshops are primarily conducted at our store. During the workshop, participants have the opportunity to create two unique postcards. You have the option to select from three types of paper: standard (White), cotton-infused, or Omikuji. Additionally, you can experience the process of making Japanese paper by choosing one of two activities: Hyouhitor (removing the outer bark) or Dakai (pulping). Japanese paper is crafted from botanical sources (known as Japanese paper tea). As the paper dries, guests are invited to enjoy a special tea service with kozo leaves and seasonal Japanese confections from a local favorite shop. We hope you’ll be excited to discover the variety of Japanese sweets available, which change with the seasons.\n\nOnce the paper-making process is complete and you’ve finished your tea, I’ll take you on a tour of the local shopping areas, including SATAKE shopping street and Okazu shopping street. These streets are filled with shops that have been around since the 1970s, evoking nostalgia for the Showa era. Additionally, I’ll show you around Torigoe Shrine, where you can obtain a Goshen if you wish.\n\nOur store is also home to a friendly calico cat mascot, who might join you during the workshop.

More than paper making experience - This experience is not just about paper making. My host was so friendly and keen to explain many other traditions. The paper making was very interesting followed by the paper tea and Japanese sweet. Then the walk around the neighbourhood was excellent as my host was keen I saw and experienced places that interested me. She was really lovely and made the whole experience worthwhile.
