Highlights

Lake Tahoe is a year-round playground offering incredible hiking, boating, and kayaking through most of the summer and some of the best skiing in North America in the winter. Ringed by massive mountains and beautiful pine forest, the lake is the largest alpine lake in North America and one of the deepest in the United States. Every year, thousand of visitors and residents alike flock to the lake to escape the searing heat of the California Central Valley and to enjoy the abundance of incredible water sports and outdoor activities the area offers.

Your three hour kayak rental will start at a local kayak facility near the mouth of the Truckee River, Lake Tahoe’s only outlet, where you have the option to paddle out in whatever direction you feel like. The lake is 12 miles across and dozens of miles long, and although you may be tempted, you’ll want to stay close to the shore and avoid trying to cross among the motorboats and jet skiers cruising the area. Your single-person kayak will keep you afloat among the gentle waves and light wind that cross the lake in the early morning and afternoon as you float by the granite boulders and massive sugar pines that ring the lake. The time will pass quickly as you work your muscles and push yourself throughout the three hours until you return to the river to disembark for your next adventure - unless you decide to upgrade to a full day rental!

Great equipment and staff, wrong meeting location listed. - Very enjoyable kayaking in the dam inlet and all along the shore line. Just being out on the water was nice. One problem is the meeting point is at the wrong location. I spent considerable time looking for the location and finally asked a person working at the marina, they said the location is wrong and they told me where to go, a long way from the indicated meeting point on Viator.

Great experience to be on Lake Tahoe! - What an AMAZING experience! We did the Sunset Tour on Lake Tahoe. The guides were very nice and shared interesting tidbits on Tahoe. The lake was easy to kayak even for beginners. Will do this again!

Lake Tahoe at its best! - There are fewer ways to experience and enjoy the grandeur that is Lake Tahoe than being out on its water and taking it all in - 360 degrees around you! Tahoe City Kayak Rental affordably and enjoyably made this happen for us. Our beach kayak jockey Zack was extremely nice and helpful, and our three hours on the water very memorable. Highly recommend this experience - whether you've a seasoned Lake Tahoekan or newbies, like we were.

Kayak Trip on a Windy Monday - Wonderful experience. The company is dog-friendly, the views were beautiful and water had a perfect amount of movement. Originally had a 930am but wind was too intense. Employees were super communicative and accommodating for us to reschedule to a noon time slot. I would recommend scheduling something late morning to early afternoon. I would recommend this kayaking experience for customers of all levels.

Tahoe City kayak newbies - We had a great time. The kayaks were fine and the Tahoe Kayak folks were awesome. We were new to kayaking, so they told us how to paddle and how to be safe. Views were lovely. Next time, I want to try their Sand Harbor location. Also, be aware: you will get wet :)

Really friendly helpful staff - Such amazingly friendly staff! We interacted with the staff at their storefront location in town, as well as the staff at the lake shore. All of them were helpful and extremely nice. They wore face masks and followed their established protocols for providing cleaned equipment, including life vests. We'd absolutely rent kayaks from them again. Great day - thank you Tahoe City Kayak!
