- Ulun Danu Bratan Temple - Ulun Danu Beratan: a renowned temple situated on Lake Beratan in the Bedugul Highlands.
The shrines, known as merus, are square structures with brick foundations and multiple pagoda-style thatched roofs. The number of roofs, always an odd number, signifies the deity’s status. Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is one of Bali’s nine ‘Kahyangan Jagat’ temples. The temple complex includes five different shrines dedicated to various Hindu gods.
Constructed in 1633, the temple is used for offerings and ceremonies honoring Dewi Danu, the Balinese goddess of water, lakes, and rivers, due to Lake Bratan’s significance as a primary irrigation source in central Bali. The complex’s 11-storey pelinggih meru is dedicated to Shiva and his consort Parvathi. A statue of Buddha is also enshrined here. This temple is often referred to as the “Bali temple on the Lake” because it appears to float when the Bratan River rises.
- Jatiluwih Green Land - Next, a 40 to 60-minute drive leads to the expansive rice terraces of Jatiluwih, recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s cultural heritage for preserving the local irrigation system known as Subak.
- Luhur Batukaru Temple - A 40 to 50-minute drive through lush hills leads to Luhur Batukaru Temple, located at the base of Mount Batukaru, Bali’s second-highest volcano. Built in the 11th century, this temple was dedicated to the ancestors of the Rajas of Tabanan. Visitors can enjoy the serene natural sounds in this tranquil, less touristy area.
- Tanah Lot Temple - The final stop is Tanah Lot Temple, renowned for offering the best sunset views in Bali. The drive from the previous location takes about an hour. Situated on the ocean, it is accessible only at low tide. This 11th-century temple provides a stunning sunset experience in Bali. The return drive to your hotel takes approximately an hour, depending on traffic and hotel location.
- Bali Botanic Garden - The garden features over 21,000 living specimens from 2,400 species, representing various species from the mountainous regions of eastern Indonesia: Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. Additionally, its herbarium houses 10,000 preserved plant specimens, ranging from algae to flowering plants.
- Taman Ayun Temple - Taman Ayun, meaning “A Beautiful Garden,” aptly describes the temple’s stunning surroundings, featuring many tiered shrines dedicated to different gods, a beautifully manicured garden, thatched-roof prayer huts, and canals. It’s no wonder this is a popular destination for those seeking peace and tranquility.
- Secret Garden Village - Secret Garden Village uniquely combines the rich heritage of Indonesian-Balinese culture with the breathtaking Bedugul landscape. It features three main buildings, blending traditional architecture with modern geometric design, including a mini beauty factory and store, a buffet and a la carte restaurant, a BBQ specialist restaurant with rice field views, and a comprehensive coffee processing exhibit.
