Beautiful, versatile Etna tour - We recommend the morning tour to Etna from Syracuse to anyone who is on holiday in the area and would like to see Europe's highest volcano. Our guide Federico met us at 8:30 a.m. at Piazza Pantheon in Syracuse. Due to the heavy traffic, we recommend allowing enough time if you are arriving by car. The Parcheggio Gelone is a 3-minute walk away, but at €2/hour it is rather expensive for the region. We were very happy when Federico told us that we were not expecting any other guests that day and that we would have a private tour for the two of us. On the way up Etna, our guide told us many interesting facts about the formation of the Etna craters and the peculiarities of the surrounding flora and fauna. We made a stop at an old lava field, where we visited a cave wearing helmets. When we arrived at the valley station of Etna, we were able to choose whether we wanted to explore the lower craters with Federico or take the cable car further up. We decided on the Etna 3000 mt experience. Our guide organized the tickets for the cable car and the bus (ticket price €78 per person still to be paid) and carefully guided us to the entrance. After about 2 hours we met up with Federico again at the vehicle and, as the last stop of the trip, we were taken to a local inn on the lower slopes of Etna. There we were treated to a very delicious and extensive tasting of specialties from the agriculture around Etna. From drinks to sweets and savory dishes, everything was there. All in all, a very successful trip, Federico anticipated our every wish and answered each of our questions in detail and in easy-to-understand English.

Just brilliant, and such good value for money! - The Wife & I took a short break to Sicily, and stayed on Ortigia. While there, we decided to take a morning tour to Etna. We were picked-up by Federico at 8.30 by the Piazza Pantheon in Siracusa, and we were delighted to discover that we were the only couple on the tour, so it turned out to be a 'private' tour (which, if that's what we had booked, would have been much more expensive. Federico was brilliant, he didn't just know about the volcanology but, also, shared interesting information about the botany, ornithology and viticulture of the area. Wearing hard hats, we ventured inside a lava tube on the way to visit an extinct crater at c2,000m elevation. We didn't take the cable car up to 2,500m, as we've seen plenty of lunar landscapes during trips to Iceland. Federico explained that two of the more elevated craters were active, and we could see plumes of steam and sulphur dioxide spewing into the sky - which, on the day we visited, was clear blue. On the way back to Siracusa (it took about an hour), we stopped-off at a vineyard, where we sampled lovely locally-produced food, both red & white wines and some much stronger stuff. There was, of course, an opportunity to purchase such things and we availed ourselves of that opportunity. We arrived back in Ortigia at c3pm, so it was a long half-day. Thank you, Federico!

Great tour! - We had a lovely tour with Etna Tribe. Enzo was a brilliant tour guide and was not only extremely knowledgeable and fun, but made sure we were comfortable and happy all day - thank you Enzo! It was lovely to see Mt Etna and Taormina during the full day tour - would definitely recommend.

Superb day out to Etna from Syracusa - An excellent guide in Frederico. Knowledgeable, chatty and friendly and with very good English. You have a choice at Etna or continuing up the cable car (at an extra charge) or walking with Frederico around the lower edges. He then takes you inside a Lava Tube, and on to a wonderful local estate for wine, oil and produce tasting. This was an unexpected bonus for us as we were not expecting it. We really would thoroughly recommend the tour with Frederico and it's also pretty good value too.

Amazing trip! - We (a family of four with two adult children) did the Etna morning tour from Syracuse. We were part of a small group of 7 picked up from Syracuse by our guide and driver, Federico. Federico was a great guide, informative and friendly and tailored our hike to the group's wishes. The trip to Mount Etna itself was amazing, as was the lava tube, and the tasting of local produce was far more extensive and varied than we had anticipated. Overall a wonderful day.

Really great experience! - we booked the Etna nature and flavors tour thanks to real good reviews we found in here and i have to admit that it was totally worth it! With only 55 € pp you have the transport( they pick us up directly at the hotel with brand new van), the guide , all the equipment to visit the cave ( helmet and torces) and a real good taste in a local farm. We was really lucky to have Claudio as our guide, he was really funny and gave us a lot of information about volcanos, local areas, and he suggested us a lot of cool places to spend the night. We recommend this a lot, it will not ruin your expectations and you are lucky enough to have Claudio as your guide you will enjoying it even more ;). thank you!
