Nice ride on a terrible day! - Our kids really enjoyed their ride despite the terrible weather. Solhestar had everything gready to go when we showed up and the guide was a trooper who let the kids enjoy the ride and fawn over the cute Icelandic horses. It was well organized and efficient on time and well worth the cost.

Incredible Experience, Can’t Wait to Come Back! - My boyfriend and I booked for a one hour riding session with Solhestar in Ölfus and had the most incredible time. Firstly, we were greeted by the lovely Emma and Nadja who made us feel so welcome straight away and showed us to the area where we could get our helmets and also offered complimentary wet weather gear, gloves and boots for those who want them. They then took us to our horses and introduced them, making sure we felt comfortable at all times and helped us to get the hang of the basics which was really useful as we didn’t have any previous experience! The girls made sure we were happy before setting off and explained everything so well. We were also in a small group of five so we had plenty of opportunities to talk with the girls and they gave us lots of insight into the Icelandic horses and made sure we got to stop halfway for photo opportunities too! I can’t rate the experience highly enough, everything was very well organised and done to a spectacular standard. Complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate is also on offer after the ride to warm up! Absolutely no complaints and we will definitely be back. Thank you Emma and Nadja for the best time !

A wonderful Icelandic horseback riding experience! - Our family comprising of two children and two adults had a wonderful ride in the countryside! Each person was matched with a horse for their ability and our guide Emma did an amazing job explaining things and making sure everyone had a great time. We got to ride right next to the mountains and it was beautiful!

Beautiful countryside to ride! - Our guide Emily was great! She explained about the ride, and was a great leader. Some in our ground never ridden a horse and she was very kind.

Solhestar for the win! - Fantastic time with our five kids. Knowledgeable and kind staff. One of our children didn’t like going fast and we were accommodated with a private tour while the others tried tolting… Such a fun and memorable experience! The views were fabulous. The horses were well loved and sweet. Highly recommend!

Great Icelandic horse ride - We booked a one-hour tour through The Greenhouse Hotel. This 2-hr choice is the closest I can find to review, and I definitely want to leave a review. We had a group of 6 and a mix of novice and more experienced riders and we all had a great time. The weather was miserable (cold, heavy wind, driving rain) but the guide provided rain gear to wear over our existing rain gear, and there was coffee, tea, and cocoa available to warm up after. Our guide was excellent. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient with the novices. In spite of the weather, this experience was a highlight of our trip.

Wonderful experience for beginner rider with Icelandic Horses! - Such an amazing experience! Our two guides were so lovely, I felt safe the whole time, my horse Benzo was always making me look so capable even though I know nothing about riding. There are stretches where we get to experience the tolt which is what I was really looking forward to! They provided waterproof clothing and it was one of my favorite experiences in Iceland! Everything was so beautiful in the rain. They also recommended this nearby restaurant with a turf roof and that was great too!

Great for beginners and families - Very nice location, of course, and the horses were so mild. Our guide was a young woman from Germany and she was so sweet. Great for first time riders and other lightly experienced riders. It was a horse walking pace for 98% of the time. The course taken was very simple and slow. Without exact figures, it was essentially 2 miles next to the road, then a right into the field, and 2 miles back along the base of the mountain. We quickened the walking pace to a gallop 4 times. Here's the reason for 1 star removed, walking on the shoulder of the road was not ideal when in such a beautiful place. New paths should be considered to enjoy the countryside for the entire time. Still, very nice experience with beautiful, well taken care of horses. They were clean and healthy, very well trained and responsive with simply guidance.
