• Glacier Lagoon - Guests will be greeted in the main parking area of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Safety equipment, included in the tour, will be provided. It is advisable to wear warm, comfortable outdoor clothing to stay dry in Iceland’s ever-changing winter weather. Please arrive at the 4x4 vehicle at least 15 minutes before departure.

Begin the journey in a 4x4 vehicle to the glacier’s base, which is an adventure in itself. From there, a 5-20 minute hike on uneven terrain leads to the Ice Cave. As the glacier constantly evolves, the most beautiful and safest Ice Cave will be selected based on daily conditions.

The Ice Caves vary in size from 30-70 meters. Expect to see other groups in the vicinity. With ample time for exploration, photography, and learning about glacial history from the guide, this will be an unforgettable experience. 2025–2026 Season Update

October Status: The primary ice cave intended for winter use is currently deemed unsafe. However, there are still numerous opportunities to witness the renowned blue ice of Vatnajökull on the glacier!

The Blue Ice Glacier Tour is being offered as the premier and safest method to experience the enchanting natural blue ice of Vatnajökull.

During this half-day excursion, participants will step directly onto the glacier to explore vibrant blue ice formations and other dynamic ice features. Led by our skilled glacier guiding team, guests will experience the glacier’s beauty in a secure, personalized, and unforgettable manner.

As the glacier is in a constant state of change, conditions—and thus the experience—can vary significantly from week to week. We conduct daily monitoring to ensure visitors witness the finest blue ice formations Vatnajökull has to offer each day, with safety as our utmost priority.

• Operates in most weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Please come in warm and waterproof clothing and good hiking boots.
• Your safety is of the utmost importance. Ice Cave tours are weather dependent. Sometimes tours have to be cancelled with short notice due to weather conditions or safety concerns or. After periods of adverse weather, the caves can become flooded or unsafe to enter. If this happens we will always do our best to offer an alternative such as a glacier hike if weather conditions allow, however if this is not suitable we will also always offer a full refund.
