Fantastic fun - We went on the Glacier Encounter. It was so much fun! Our guide, Asta, was excellent. She was cheery, warm, informative and inspired confidence in her ability to look after us. We felt in safe hands. She was also really great with our 9 year old son. The tour itself was very worthwhile. So amazing to get up close to crevasses etc. And crampons are amazing - they really do make it so much easier to walk on the glacier, even though, as novices, we felt it must be impossible!

Great organization, great explanations, nothing to complain about. We are not great hikers but the discovery is accessible to everyone. We will keep unforgettable memories of it. Amazing discovery, accessible to all - Great experience with an awesome guide called "Damian". He tried to personalize our adventure because it's not every day that we have the chance to climb on a glacier and especially the largest in Europe. The difficulty scared me a little, especially since I'm not in great physical condition, I don't speak English well, and I was afraid of not understanding the explanations. Finally Damian our guide adapted to our group and it was great. I had never worn crampons, after the first few minutes it was fine. There was no particular difficulty. I pity the people who visit with big operators like Artic Aventure and others because they are big groups. The best part was the moment to rappel down an ice wall 👌thanks a lot to him and hello from France, Maëlle and Christelle

Great experience - My girlfriend and I went on a three day glacier course with Glacier Encounter and could not recommend it more! Our guide was Lucas who is one of the nicest and the most patient people on the planet! He's super experienced, and he really knows his Xs and Os when it comes to guiding, keeping people confortable, and anything to do with glaciers. Even before the course started he was so helpful with about a million unnecessary questions he got from me through the email, always replying really fast and shooting all my doubts down in an instance by really well articulated answers. He took us around the Solheimajokull glacier, showed us various ways of walking with crampons, found all sorts of cool crevasses and other ice formations, thought us how to repel down the ice wall and then climb up again. All of that with keeping a high level of safety in mind at all times. All in all a great experience!!!! Next time we will want to go to a glacier we're definitely going back with Glacier Encounter again! Thank you Lucas!!!!

Must do - Super guidance, small group, excellent guide and very well suited for my kids (from 9 to 16), as well as my wife and myself. The layed back atmosphere and the professional and dedicated hiking guide (and chauffeur) made it a highlight of our Iceland tour

Wonderful for Families - A highlight of our trip to Iceland! We did a Glacier Hike with myself, my husband, and our 10 year old son. Lucas was engaging and thoughtful with our son and make it a thrilling (yet exceptionally safe) experience for him. He took us into an ice cave and we all were able to ice climb a couple of times. Perfect for families!

Unforgettable. - One of the best experiences of our trip to Iceland! We were warmly welcomed by Maria, a highly trained and enthusiastic guide, who took us to discover the glacier. All the equipment is provided, and Maria followed us step by step with competence and attention (it was our first time on a glacier and we had no idea how to move; in no time at all we were moving without problems). Unlike other tours, with Local Guide you are taken to the car park right below the glacier, so you don't waste time walking to get there. We learned, we had fun, we were excited, everything was so beautiful that the hours flew by. Many thanks to the wonderful Maria, it was a unique and unforgettable experience!

Local Guide Vatnajökull - Iceland is a beautiful country and the glaciers are spectacular to see.  We took a trip with Hidden Iceland and part of the tour included a glacier walk if you felt comfortable and had the endurance for the journey. We ventured out and tried the Vatnajökull glacier hike.  The one thing I learned about Iceland is that you definitely need to be prepared for the journey and Local Guide Vatnajökull is definitely the company to select to deliver a fabulous experience.   Hidden Iceland only partners with the best tour guides and our journey revealed just that.  We were provided with an amazing guide who first provided all the safety equipment needed for the glacier hike such as (crampons, helmet, and harness).  In addition, she provided all the instructions that were needed to have a wonderful adventure.  It was an easy hike for our group.  I appreciated the way our guide took the time to make sure everyone was safe as we continued the journey to the glacier.   It was summer in Iceland however, it wasn’t very cold however, gloves and a hat were a plus to have.   Our guide did an exceptional job of providing us with information regarding the glacier.  I knew she was an expert climber however, she managed to show my son how to create a wonderful photo that gave the illusion that he was an expert climber as well.  Once he returned home he enjoyed sharing that moment with his friends.  We truly appreciate all the wonderful memories that were created by taking this journey.  Indeed Local Guide Vatnajökull is an exceptional and responsible company that desires to show others the beauty of Iceland while still respecting Mother Nature.

Highly recommended, especially for families - We booked after spending a day trying to find a tour where we could bring our 9 and 5 year old children- every other operator we found has a 10 or 8 year minimum age. The tour itself was fantastic- Jokull, Lucas and Heather were knowledgeable, friendly, and great with kids, using humor and good spirits to get them excited. They were brilliant at making it feel like a real adventure while maintaining safety and a kid-friendly pace. Best of all, it was just our family, while most of the other tours (which cost the same or more) had 10-20 people. We also got to go on a new route which they'd just carved out that morning, while again most of the other tours went on the same route which was like a highway at times. Glacier Encounters is great for a personalized experience- with kids or otherwise. Highly recommended!
