• Batuan Temple - Pura Puseh Desa Batuan is the oldest puseh temple in Bali, situated in Dusun Tengah, Batuan Village, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. Constructed in the year Isaka 944 or 1022 AD, this temple is part of the Tri Kahyangan within a Pakraman Village in Bali. The concept of Desa Pekraman was introduced by Mpu Kuturan, who arrived in Bali in 1001 AD, aiming to unite groups in Bali to worship God in his manifestations as the Gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (Tri Murti Tatwa).
• Tirta Empul Temple - Located in Tampaksiring, Bali, Tirta Empul Temple is one of the island’s most esteemed Hindu temples and a significant spiritual destination. Founded in 962 AD during the Warmadewa Dynasty, the temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the god of water, and is renowned for its sacred spring, which has drawn devotees for centuries seeking spiritual purification and renewal.

The name “Tirta Empul,” meaning “holy spring,” perfectly captures the temple’s essence and cultural importance. The sacred spring continuously provides crystal-clear water to the temple’s intricately designed purification pools and fountains. • Tegalalang Rice Terrace - Also referred to as “Ubud Rice Fields,” Tegalalang Rice Terrace is located north of Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is open seven days a week from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. There is an entrance fee, possibly IDR15,000 (as of Aug 2020). The best times to visit are likely in the morning or after 5:00 pm when there are fewer tourists and the weather is cooler. To see the rice terraces at their greenest, consider visiting in March and October when the paddy is about to be harvested.

The traditional irrigation system is still in use today, originating in the 8th century. Water is sourced from nearby rivers and mountains, with farmers having constructed water canals to allow the flow from one field to another. The pathway along the rice terrace is quite narrow.

• Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary - The Ubud Monkey Forest is renowned for its conservation efforts. Research and studies are regularly conducted to observe the monkeys’ health, diet, and breeding habits. Visitors can see these playful primates in their natural habitat, swinging through canopies and feeding on bananas.

The forest also features several ancient temples with guardian statues covered in moss. Notable sites include the 14th-century Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal and Pura Prajapati, which is dedicated to village funerals. Relics and statues are nestled under dense foliage with limited sunlight, creating a mysterious and ancient atmosphere.

Banyan tree roots drape over shadowy dragon staircases, offering exotic photo opportunities. Pura Beji, an ancient bathing temple, is also located northwest of the main site of Ubud Monkey Forest.
