Additional Information

Embark on a full-day adventure around the Borromean Islands with a one-day flexible boat pass on Italy’s Lake Maggiore. Setting off from the lakeside village of Stresa Piazza Marconi, design your own exploration itinerary using the boat as transportation. Discover the grand island mansion and structured landscapes of Isola Bella, appreciate the vibrant flora on Isola Madre, and meander along the enchanting promenade of the small Isola dei Pescatori. Revel in the sweeping lake scenery as you navigate between the islands, and decide the duration of your stay at each location. We reserve the right to cancel a client’s reservation with complete reimbursement in case of inclement weather conditions.

  • We recommend visiting this stop order first stop Isola Madre, second Isola Pescatori at the end Isola Bella.
  • Animals are allowed on board the boats, it is not allowed to enter the Borromean properties.
  • In the 14th century the Borromeo, powerful feudal lords of the area but originally from San Miniato, became owners of the islands and thus began their transformation. Even today the family still owns Isola Bella and Isola Madre, in addition to the three rocks that emerged known as Castles of Cannero due to the ruins of medieval fortifications. Isola dei Pescatori is the only one permanently inhabited, albeit by a small community, while the two “sister” islands are coveted by tourists who admire the two splendid palaces and their gardens, famous throughout Europe for the quality of the landscape. and for the care and variety of plant architectures, made up of over 2000 varieties of different species. In Isola Madre there is also a large fauna of oriental birds, such as white peacocks, golden pheasants and parrots, free in the splendid garden. Isola Bella, on the other hand, has a garden that, skilfully designed over the centuries, has multicolored blooms throughout the year, in rotation among the various floral species (roses, orchids, bulbous plants, magnolias, orchards, azaleas, gardenias, wisteria).
  • Upon your arrival at Stresa Piazza Marconi you can contact one of the representatives at the ticket office or go directly to the pier of Isole Lago Maggiore s.n.c. to find the boat, recognizable by a large tricolor sail with the Italian flag. Please exchange your voucher at the ticket office to join the tour and make the payment of the landing fee.
  • Palace and garden are not included

Easy one day trip - Beautiful islands to visit and the villas and gardens are to die for. Their are lots of little streets to see and restaurants to eat in. We took two hours on Isola Madre, one and a half on Pescatori, and about three hours on Isola Bella as we also saw the Villa and gardens. Well worth the trip and easily done in one day

Steep access ramps - Beware, the access to the small boats is down a carpet covered concrete slope, then onto a platform to reach the boat. No handrails down the slope and it is steeper than permitted in uk. Amazed that such a busy form of transport has no safe access from the ramp at Stresa.

A little bit chaotic, and not 100% flexible - We chose this option instead of going on a private tour/ boat with our group to have more flexibility (in terms of time, money, and preference because we wanted to visit only Isola Bella, not all three islands). We bought combo tickets online (including the hop-on-off boat tour, Isola Bella with the palace, and a ticket for the Pallavicino park). Firstly you have to swap your online ticket for a paper ticket (staff located in front of their ticket office on Piazza Marconi), and then you go to the dock 5 min walk from the ticket place. The boat is a round tour, so if you, for example, want to go only to Isola Bella, you will have to wait for passengers to get off (and new ones on) at Isola Madre, then Isola dei Pescatori, and then you). Also, when leaving the island, if you are not going to another one, have in mind that they have a schedule (nowhere to be found), so you have to wait sometime for the boat that goes directly to Stresa. The ride itself is pleasant, and the captains are attentive.

Beautiful islands. Viator was disappointing. - Very disappointed that the package we bought to see three islands on Lake Maggiore, only allowed us to see two. Viator should have known that the jewel of the area, Isola Bella, was going to be closed on the day of our reservation and should not have offered the package. As it was, we went the following day, but had to pay again for something we’d already paid for. That said, Isola Madre was a special place to visit. Pescatori, which was billed as a fishing village, was just a tourist trap to sell stuff. It’s best views we’re from the water. When we went on our own to see Isola Bella, it was great, but too fantastical for our taste. Isola Madre was our favorite!
