Highlights
  • Archibald Clark House - We study the beautiful architecture of this oldest house in St. Marys and discuss how its owner, Archibald Clark, was involved in episodes of both mayhem and murder when the British occupied St. Marys during the War of 1812.
  • First Presbyterian Church - Here we learn how a horse was stuck in this church’s bell tower in the early 1800s. You will never guess who put it there!
  • Orange Hall Gilman Cultural Center - At this beautiful Greek Revival styled mansion, we discuss its associations with Daniel McGirt, a Revolutionary War turncoat who became a notorious and feared bandit in Southeast Georgia.
  • 213 Osborne St - At this stately 1830s home, we explore the heartbreaking murder of Thomas Hardee, who made the fatal decision of denying his future murderer the chance to court his daughters.
  • 220 Osborne St - At this elegant Victorian home, we discuss its former purpose as a medical clinic for the Gilman Paper Company. This company’s high-ranking members coordinated an assassination plot - you won’t believe how the plot thickens!
  • Spencer House Inn by Brham - We discuss this bed & breakfast’s gorgeous “haint” blue porch ceilings, the ghostly meaning of this color, and why it has been used for centuries in the South.
  • St. Marys Submarine Museum - Outside this museum, we discuss how the land where the submarine base stands today was owned by John Houstoun McIntosh, who played an important role in the Patriot War of 1812. In this war, men of Southeast Georgia caused mayhem with their attempt to wrest control of Florida from the Spanish.
  • St. Marys Community Market/ St. Marys Waterfront Pavilion - We end our tour by taking in St. Marys’ picturesque riverfront views and discussing a murder which took place much more recently than you might expect!

Now that the tour is over, it is time for “martinis,” as Seagle’s Saloon offers Happy Hour-priced drinks exclusively to our group!

Learn About St, Mary's Rich History of Murder and Mayhem - We are new to St. Marys and took the Murder, Mayhem and Martinis tour with Deb as our guide. It was a fast paced tour of the underbelly of St. Marys dating back to the 1700 and 1800's up to and including the 1970's and 2011's. Fantastic stories of tangled webs and twisted plans for everything from rigged elections to murder for hire plots. It's an enjoyable way to spend an evening learning about this interesting small border town with a rich history.

Excellent Tour in St Marys, Georgia - Molly’s tour is excellent! I have lived in St Mary’s more than 30 years and still learned a lot. Most of Seminole Ave in St Marys went on the tour together and really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend to everyone.
