The day began with the sun casting its golden glow over the Caribbean Sea, a perfect start for an adventure. My partner and I were picked up by Miguel, our driver, who was as punctual as the tides. Arriving at the distillery, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming Libby, our guide for the day. Her passion for her work was infectious as she introduced us to the world of rum with a short video. The tour of the distillery was a fascinating journey through time, revealing the intricate processes and rich history behind St. Lucia’s renowned spirits. A delightful surprise was the Carnival Room, where we were immersed in the island’s vibrant Carnival culture, complete with dazzling costumes and lively soca music. It was a sensory feast that set the stage for the main event.

The rum tasting was an experience like no other. With around 20 different varieties to sample, each sip was a new discovery. From the smooth and subtle to the bold and spicy, the flavors danced on my palate, each telling its own story. It was a rum lover’s paradise, and I couldn’t resist purchasing a few bottles to bring a taste of St. Lucia back home.

As the tour concluded, Miguel was ready to whisk us back to our resort. The sun was high, and the heat was palpable, but Miguel had a refreshing surprise in store. He offered us Piton Beer, a local favorite, to cool down after our rum-filled adventure. The crisp, cold beer was the perfect antidote to the tropical heat, and as we sipped, I reflected on the day’s experiences.
