Sailing into Sunset: A Luxurious Catamaran Adventure in St. Lucia
When the opportunity arose to explore St. Lucia’s west coast on a luxury catamaran, I couldn’t resist. Join me as I recount a day filled with snorkeling, stunning views, and a sunset that painted the sky in vibrant hues.
Setting Sail on “Last Call”
The sun was high in the sky as I stepped aboard the luxurious 43ft Leopard Catamaran, affectionately named “Last Call.” With my partner by my side and a couple of friends, we were ready to embark on a half-day adventure along St. Lucia’s stunning west coast. The crew—Captain BR, Eli, and Winney—greeted us with warm smiles and a promise of an unforgettable journey. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about setting sail on a catamaran, especially when the destination is as breathtaking as St. Lucia.
Our private tour began with a slight delay, but the crew was accommodating, adjusting the pick-up point to a dock closer to our resort. This flexibility allowed us to start our journey a bit later, which meant we would be cruising back just in time for a spectacular sunset. The catamaran was immaculate, with plenty of spaces to relax and soak in the Caribbean vibes. Whether lounging on the stern, catching rays on the upper deck, or feeling the sea spray on the bow, every spot offered a unique perspective of the ocean.
Snorkeling and Sipping
Our first stop was Anse Chastanet beach, a snorkeler’s paradise. The crew provided all the necessary equipment, and Eli even joined us in the water to point out the vibrant coral reefs and schools of colorful fish. As someone who feels at home in the ocean, I was thrilled to explore the underwater world of St. Lucia. The clarity of the water and the diversity of marine life were simply mesmerizing.
After our snorkeling adventure, we rinsed off and settled back on the catamaran. Winney served up a delightful spread of snacks, including banana bread, salsa, and plantain chips, while the bar offered a tempting array of drinks. I couldn’t resist the rum punch, a Caribbean classic that perfectly complemented the laid-back atmosphere. With the sun warming our skin and the wind in our hair, we cruised up the coast, taking in the sights and sounds of the island.
Sunset Magic
As we sailed past picturesque resorts, hidden bays, and pristine beaches, Captain BR shared stories and insights about the island’s history and culture. The highlight of our journey was undoubtedly Marigot Bay, a stunning natural harbor often referred to as a “hurricane hole.” The beauty of the bay, with its lush green hills and tranquil waters, was a sight to behold.
As the day began to wind down, we turned back towards our starting point, just in time to witness the most breathtaking sunset. Eli, with a twinkle in his eye, joked that he had ordered it just for us. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples, casting a magical glow over the water. It was the perfect ending to an incredible day on the sea.
Reflecting on the experience, I realized that this catamaran cruise was more than just a boat tour; it was a celebration of the island’s natural beauty and the joy of being on the water. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a first-time cruiser, this adventure is sure to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime. Until next time, keep riding the waves and chasing sunsets!
