Additional Information

Immersing oneself in the gastronomy of a locale is an exceptional way to understand its history and culture. Our Food Tour in Newfoundland provides an opportunity to do just that in downtown St. John’s. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador is renowned for its distinct food culture in Canada, with an emphasis on seafood, game meat, and delectable traditional dishes. Whether it’s a Come From Away (CFA) making a name with a much-loved local pastry, to a pub with a haunting history that inspired a television set, or a prior fruit stall standing strong on the remnants of the Great Fire, we delve into the characters, narratives, and cuisines that set the city apart.

Come with an appetite! If you are feeling famished upon arrival, you will be completely satisfied by the end of our tour. Don’t worry…we’ll let you in on the local lingo too. ;)

Arrive hungry! - A huge amount of food! Just the right amount of history woven in to the stories of food! Best to do it early in your trip so you know where to eat later.

Top notch tour - highly recommended - Excellent introduction to St. John’s and Newfoundland’s food basics. Melissa lead us on a walk that covered some history, some fun stories and anecdotes and delved into how the local food was grown, gathered and developed. We visited some great local pubs/restaurants and bakeries, each of which showcased a specific food from the land and the sea. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

A very filling experience - The Food Tour was both an interesting walking tour that included many historical sites in downtown St. John's, and a food tour featuring six different local specialties. One thing to be aware of on the walking side is that you will spend much of your walking time going up and down fairly steep hills including some stairs. Our guide Melissa was careful to stop often, both to let us catch our breath and to describe the history all around us. But if you have limited mobility, you should think twice about taking this tour. Each of the six food stops (ranging from pubs to a bakery) served us a different local item. First rate quality, and more than enough quantity. We were warned at the start that we might be very full by the end. My wife and I both skipped dinner that night. Highly recommended.

Good food tour - Pick up spot east to find. The tour guide was friendly (my only comment would be that maybe a bit too much about what she liked as a kid in terms of food). The local places she took us and the food served was very good, especially the moose sliders and the mini fish and chips. Would certainly recommend the tour.
