Highlights
  • Prince Murat House - Both Prince Achille Murat (nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte), and American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson stayed here in the 1820’s to fight a bout of illness. This 1790 coquina house is a great example of Second Spanish period architecture.
  • Aviles Street - Extending south from the Plaza to Bridge Street, Aviles Street is one of the narrow, brick lined, historic streets of the city which has retained much of its colonial character.
  • St. George Street - Starting at the Old City Gates and extending to historic Lincolnville, St. George Street is the center of shopping, entertainment, historical sites, attractions, and restaurants.
  • Father Miguel O’Reilly House Museum - With parts of the structure dating back to 1691, the O’Reilly House is St. Augustine’s oldest standing home. Father Michael O’Reilly moved into the house in 1785 and was a leading figure in the construction of the Cathedral. Upon his death in 1812, he willed the house to Catholic Church. It is now operated as a museum by the Sisters of St. Joseph.
  • Plaza de la Constitucion - The plaza has been a central part of St. Augustine since 1573 when it was first laid out by the Spanish Royal Ordinances.
  • Treasury Street - The narrowest street in the city! Built only 7 feet wide to make it almost impossible to steal gold being transported from the ships to the Royal Spanish Treasury.
  • Castillo de San Marcos National Monument - The oldest and largest masonry fort in the continental United States. Finished in 1695 and survived 2 British attacks. It is not part of the National Park Service.

Beer, history, and an amazing tour guide! - My brother flew down from Wisconsin to visit, and as we are both beer lovers, I wanted to show him the local beers and historic sites of St. Augustine. The historic and brew tour Steve brought us on was the best thing we did in St. Augustine. Steve was extremely knowledgeable about the local history and gave us facts about the area as we walked from one brewery to the next. Steve’s love of beer and history sprinkled with him being a fun and easy going guy makes for an excellent time. Would highly recommend this experience!!

St. Augustine Visit Like None Other - We've been to St. Augustine many times but never experienced it like this. It was so much fun! Alex was great! He really tried to make sure we all had a memorable evening and we did! Alex has a lot of really cool information to share about St. Augustine's history (again, we'd been there many times before but never learned as much as on the tour). His route took us by several historic sites but we never felt like we were in a museum. He shared interesting, fun tidbits and then let our group, made up of 3 pairs, get to know each other and enjoy! Of course, the beer was great and the food he rounded up to sample was unique and delicious. If you enjoy beer and getting to know a special historic city, do not pass up on this tour! During the tour and in an email after, Alex shared many different restaurant options for St. Augustine. Makes me want to go back sooner than later.

Beer is our friend - Steve was a great host for our tour of St Augustine beer culture. It was informative and fun and there was plenty of good beer as well. Steve also gave us some great tips on things to do in the city as well as restaurants an nightlife. I would certainly give two big thumbs up for this tour. Dog Rose Brewery was my favorite on the tour. It is a cool city and I can't wait to get back. I will add that if you want to go to my favorite brewery in the city I would head to Old Coast Ales as well.
