Exploring Tenerife’s Volcanic Wonders: A Family Adventure on Mount Teide
When I heard about the Mount Teide Tour, I knew it was a must-do for our family trip to Tenerife. The promise of exploring volcanic landscapes and breathtaking views was too enticing to pass up.
A Journey Through Tenerife’s Volcanic Heart
Our adventure began with an early morning start, as the coach collected us from our hotel. With three kids in tow, I had prepared a picnic breakfast the night before, knowing that the early start might be a bit of a challenge. As we made our way through various resorts to pick up other passengers, I found it fascinating to see parts of Tenerife that we hadn’t yet explored. The kids were equally intrigued, peering out the windows and pointing out interesting sights.
The drive up the mountain was nothing short of spectacular. The landscape transformed before our eyes, and the guide was excellent at explaining the history and geology of the area. We made a rest stop halfway up, where I was grateful for the heads-up about the 1 euro charge for the toilet. It’s always good to be prepared, especially when traveling with children.
Exploring the Volcanic Landscape
As we continued our ascent, the volcanic environment unfolded around us. The kids were amazed by the lava flows and the unique rock formations. We stopped at the colored rocks, which provided a perfect backdrop for family photos. The guide’s insights into the volcanic activity that shaped the island were both educational and engaging, making it a perfect learning experience for the whole family.
The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the cable car ride. We had been warned about the cold at the top, so we packed plenty of layers. Although it was only 10 degrees, the wind made it feel much colder. The kids were thrilled by the ride, and the views from the top were breathtaking. However, the altitude did have an effect, and we took it slow, choosing to explore just one of the paths. Sensible footwear was a must, as the rocky paths were quite challenging.
A Memorable Descent
After an hour at the top, we descended back to the visitor center, which was bustling with activity. The heat hit us as we returned to the coach, with temperatures soaring to 43 degrees. I was glad we had brought plenty of water, as staying hydrated was essential.
The drive back offered a different perspective of the volcano, and we had another opportunity for photos at the second cone. The kids were tired but happy, and the journey back to the hotel was filled with chatter about the day’s adventures.
This Mount Teide Tour was a fantastic family experience, combining stunning natural beauty with educational insights. It’s a trip I would highly recommend to any family visiting Tenerife, offering a unique glimpse into the island’s volcanic wonders.
