A Journey to the Heart of Teide National Park

Our adventure began with a timely pick-up from our hotel, where we met our charming tour guide, Enrique. As a family travel writer, I always look for experiences that are both educational and enjoyable for my children, and this trip promised to be just that. Enrique’s warm demeanor and vast knowledge of the area set the tone for a day filled with discovery and wonder.

The drive up into the mountains was nothing short of spectacular. The winding roads took us through lush pine forests, offering glimpses of the breathtaking landscapes that awaited us. My children were captivated by the stories Enrique shared about the volcanic formations and the unique flora and fauna of the region. Next, we headed to the cable car station. Although we hadn’t booked tickets in advance, thinking it might be closed due to snow, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of taking the cable car, we joined another couple for a more intimate exploration of the park’s far side. The views of the snow-covered Teide were nothing short of magical, and the kids loved the unexpected adventure.

We also made a delightful stop at a local eatery, where we enjoyed some refreshing drinks and delicious Canarian pizza. It was a lovely break, allowing us to soak in the atmosphere and recharge for the next leg of our journey.

A Day to Remember

As we continued our exploration, Enrique’s expertise shone through. His knowledge of the park’s history and ecology was impressive, and he had a knack for making the information accessible and engaging for the kids. Our bus driver, Jose, navigated the challenging mountain roads with ease, adding to the sense of adventure.

On our way back, we were treated to stunning views of Los Gigantes, a bonus that added to the day’s excitement. The kids were in awe of the towering cliffs, and it was a perfect way to end our adventure.

Reflecting on the day, I realized how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected. While I had dressed the kids in layers, expecting cooler temperatures, the warm January sun surprised us all. It’s a reminder that flexibility is key when traveling with children.
