Highlights
  • Dineh Bekeyah Tours - This tour is a custom tour and are not necessarily in the order below. Each guide has their own itinerary and have a specific place and time to be throughout the tour.

The 3 hour tour makes a stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were film, and also the Transformers: Age of Extinction featuring Mark Wahlberg. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the arches.

At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories.

You will also travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots.

In the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs.

You will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument.

Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel, then get ready for a scenic drive to Monument Valley in a comfortable all-terrain vehicle— allowing for exclusive access to parts of the park that are inaccessible to smaller cars.

The area, located on a Navajo Reservation and considered a sacred healing region by Native American tribes, is tough to navigate on your own. But your guide will walk you through the history of the Navajo tribal park and the background of each stunning natural formation. With your choice of a sunrise or sunset tour, you’re bound for incredible, camera-ready views during the sun-kissed time of day known by photographers as the “Golden Hour.”

The itineraries are fully customizable, so you’ll have your pick of some incredible spots, including iconic rock formations like John Ford’s Point, which served as film backdrop in many John Wayne Westerns. One of the most photographed formations is the Yei Bi Chei monuments, which resemble a line of tribal dancers. You’ll also get an opportunity to take pictures of the Big Hogan, a sandstone cave chamber, and Ear of the Wind, a mesmerizing, crimson-hued arch.

At the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at different angles. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point.

Monument Valley behind-the-scene tour. - Having been to Monument Valley several times over the years and doing the usual rim drive, I wanted to experience some of the off- the-beaten path vistas. I booked through Viatour, and the tour operator was a local Navajo run company. Our driver, was Harry Nez. I can’t say enough good things about him!!!! He picked us up at The View Hotel exactly at the appointed time (5:15 am for the 5:30 sunrise tour). He was a bit reserved a first, but quickly warmed up to us, giving us a lot of back stories on the scenery, and taking us to locations accessible only to guided tours. I had requested a tour focused on photography as I am a nature photographer, and, boy, did I hit the jackpot with Harry!!!! Turns out that he is an extremely talented and accomplished photographer, and knows every spot for the perfect shots. I am so grateful for his expertise, and the fact that he was willing to share so much of his knowledge with me! Also, the fact that he is also a Nikon person, he expertly navigated the settings on my camera and taught me some things I didn’t even know my camera and also my I phone were capable of! I would very highly recommend going out with Harry to anyone considering this tour!!! Thanks again, Harry!

What a riot! Better commentary/views than our own tour would have had. - What a riot driving & jostling (sometimes fishtailing on the off-road dune trails) through the valley!! Harry skillfully maneuvered to many great viewing spots, ensuring we got to the right area for sunset photos. Also glad we didn't subject our rental vehicle to the official route.

Harry is the BEST!!! - AMAZING AWESOME Sunrise tour with Harry. What else can I say other than if you're in Monument Valley you MUST book this tour. Aim for the earlier one because Harry will show you some places to get some Milky Way astrophotography. Pack a tripod, but if you forget Harry usually carries one you can borrow, he is after all an amazing photographer!

AMAZING! 10/10 - We took the 3 hour sunrise tour with Harry Nez and he was incredible. The whole experience was amazing and his knowledge of where to go and how to take the best photos only made the experience that much better. I also learned a lot about the Navajo people. Hands down one of the best tour guides I have ever had.

Must see, take the time! - Our tour guide was friendly, fun and very knowledgeable about the history and sites. We did not go on the Sunrise tour as I had a blood sugar low (hypoglycemia) episode at 4 am and was not ready to go on tour for 6 am.

Wonderful sunrise tour with the best guide! - Lee took us on a sunrise tour. He's a wonderful guide; very helpful with local knowledge and with photography tips. He showed us backcountry places we would not have seen on our own. He pointed out various formations and places, along with explaining how they were intertwined with the Navajo culture. It's a wonderful tour. Would do it again and would ask for the same guide. Great company, easy to book, very punctual, and the SUV was comfortable.

FANTASTIC 5 ⭐️ EXPERIENCE - Second trip back with renowned photographer Harry Nez. The tour was even better than my first in 2022 Having the camera tripod made the sunrise photos even better. A wealth of information about Monument Valley and the culture, as well as, Harry shared his expertise and camera tricks made this trip special for my daughter and I. Look forward to seeing more stars in the future

Enjoyed Monument Valley Sunrise tour - Enjoyed this sunrise tour of Monument Valley. Tour guide Lee knew the best spots for picture and shared a lot of tips. Lee drove us around in a Suburban and we were nice and cozy on a 23F morning. Some of the tour companies are using vehicles without an enclosure. Brrr… The tour got a little long and repetitive in the middle. I recommend cutting the trip by 30-45min and providing coffee for the sunrise tour.
