Highlights
  • Cape Agulhas - Southernmost Tip of Africa - We leave Cape Town at about 07:30 in the morning and drive southeast on the N2 via Sir Lowry’s pass heading towards the Cape Overberg. We will enjoy views of spectacular landscapes, rugged mountain ranges and gently sloping hills of wheat and canola fields that look a bit like mid-ocean swell waves. We stop above Sir Lowry’s pass for a photo opportunity and breathtaking sights of False Bay lying below.

Our expedition continues through the beautiful green, gold and brown citrus orchards of the overberg, stopping at a Farm stall for some refreshments. We proceed with our trip through Caledon, the seventh oldest town in South Africa, agricultural hub of the Overberg area and known for the iron-rich hot springs on the slopes of the Swartberg.

Our tour will lead us to The Cape Agulhas Lighthouse that has stood for over 150 years as a maritime chaperone over the notorious ‘Cape of Storms’, at the most southern tip of Africa. This official meeting point of the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean is also the point of convergence of the Mozambique and Benguela currents.

Bestride the Atlantic and Indian oceans at the tip of Africa. - The true tip of Africa, not Cape Point, is well worth a visit and tastefully marked. A good place to propose as we saw one young couple become engaged across the two oceans! There are well marked trails in the area with some great sea views and a local lighthouse. A must visit if in the area. Not crazy hordes of coaches and tourists as at Cape Point (at least when we visited with a U3a group).

Elton - the rockstar - Elton is a treasure trove of South African history and more importantlu a delight to talk to. During our long drive out to Cape Agulhas, he helped us explore all the small towns and histories related to it. This gave us a view into the SA countryside. He was very courteous of our various requests to stop at photo points. A must tour if you want to have a frank and easygoing conversation with an amazing human being (and obviously the southern most point of the continent xD)

Wonderful experience - I had an amazing time during the tour, Elton was very knowledgeable and told me a lot of interesting facts about South Africa. The cape Aghulhas was great, impressive to see the two oceans side by side and the penguins were very cute. On the way back, elton went out of his way and drove along the coastline of false bay, wonderful view and wasn’t part of the tour initially, so very grateful for that experience. Would recommend that tour in addition to cape of good hope.
