The church’s walls vividly depict scenes from the lives of the Mother of God and Jesus Christ with extraordinary vitality and emotion.
• Tsar Samuel’s Fortress - Recent excavations by Macedonian archaeologists suggest that this fortress was built on the site of an earlier fortification dating back to the 4th century BC, likely constructed by King Philip II of Macedon.
• Plaoshnik - This site contains remnants from various periods, ranging from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The Early Christian era left its mark with Christian basilicas featuring magnificent floor mosaics that reveal the spiritual life of the population. In the late 9th century, St. Clement, the first Slavic Archbishop and creator of the Cyrillic alphabet, arrived here, initiating a significant educational and literary movement. He established the first Slavic University, spreading Slavic culture from this location.

• Church of Saint Sophia - During Tsar Samoil’s reign, this church served as the cathedral and was the central church of the Tsar Samoil patriarchy. The church, as it stands today, was renovated and adorned with frescoes during the time of Archbishop Leo, between 1037 and 1056.
