With its lofty hill-top location, the town was a strategically important stronghold for the Moors after their invasion in the 8th century. Wealth flowed into Silves during its Moorish Middle Age heyday only to be wiped out after a century of power struggles and a devastating earthquake. Much of today’s stately architecture originates from the 19th century when Silves came back into prominence.

Great day out - The castle was very interesting and the views were great. The mountain village was lovely and the views down the mountain were fabulous. The tour guide was great, lots of interesting things to say and so helpful. The bus driver was very good

Great trip to Salves and Monchique - My husband and I loved this tour. Bus was comfortable. Ana was our tour guide and spoke great english and explained everything very well. We were picked up from our hotel itself which was great. We had enough time in both places and enjoyed our visit The only downside was not able to see from Monchique due to the fog.

Great guide and places visited but not great travel - Minibus was very late picking us up with no explanation of what was happening next. Eventually joined the main coach and made our way to first stop.
The tour guide was very good and knowledgable and we had plenty of time in Silves to explore.
Back on the coach to Monchique and Foia and again very knowledgable guide gave lots of information on trees.
Coach was too hot and on the windy roads several people then threw up.
Be warned if you are not on the main coach from the start you are stuck with what’s left seat wise and not allowed to change at any point so with no view out the window on any part of the journey the majority of my trip was wasted

Lovely Destinations but a bit Rushed - The town of Silves was beautiful with a fantastic castle. Unfortunately the whole trip felt a bit rushed. We almost spent more time travelling than time in the destinations. In Monchique we only saw the view from the mountains no time to stop and see the town.

Lots of sitting and waiting - Spent way too much time in a bus picking up folks and never stopped in the town of Monchique so the name of the tour is deceiving. Our tour guide was lovely but on top of a tip for her and our driver we also tipped shuttle drivers.

You need a better Tour manager for this tour - Absolutely worthless, the tour operator lady was very terse, unfriendly and at all three sites, just leaves you at bus door and that was it. I understand she was obese and not wanting to walk but lot of very old and frail people were able to walk to the old sites and tourist spots. She did not care to walk or be helpful at all.
Secondly the pickup locations were misleading, the location with Faro address is almost 30 miles away from Faro city; for tourists being new to area this should be clarified better. I had to get an expensive taxi to reach the nearest pickup location.
