Highlights
- Silfra meeting point - Heading out from your Reykjavík accommodation to Silfra takes 45 minutes. Once you have greeted your certified guide he or she will run through how the day will go and what to expect from the tour. Upon arriving at Silfra, you will don your gear listen in to a safety briefing and head to the glacially flooded fissure known as Silfra.
The fissure is ever changing and grows wider as the tectonic plates move 2cm further apart each year. The approximate time in the water is around 30-40 minutes, and you’ll finish the tour by warming up with a well earned hot chocolate.
We will take photos of you and do not charge extra commission. Normally included are 40-100 photos, this varies on group size and the skill level of the group. They are downloadable after a few days.
With the wetsuit option you’ll just need to wear your swim suit underneath it. Our guides highly recommended that you bring thick socks (preferably wool) as this will help to keep your feet cozy and warm while snorkeling!
We are the only company to offer wetsuit and drysuit. This means members of your group can book different options and still be able to stay together in the water.

Additional Information
Snorkeling in Silfra fissure is an exceptional experience bestowed by nature. Found in Thingvellir on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Silfra is a vast ‘split’ in the land resulting from the separation of two tectonic plates.
Opting for the wetsuit option advantages you with the ability to dive deep and gain a distinctive view of both underwater and above the water. This choice is a favourite among scuba divers lacking necessary scuba diving certifications. The drysuit, however, might be a better fit for those not so comfortable with swimming.
Prior exposure to snorkeling/ diving is beneficial for diving deep, though not compulsory. The drysuit option can be reserved for others in your group or yourself on a separate listing for the same tour.
Our groups always consist of a maximum of 6 people per guide, ensuring a more intimate and personalized experience. If your group comprises 7 or more, you might need to prepare your equipment together but would be partitioned during the water activity.
- All participants must know how to swim and be comfortable in water
- All participants must be able to communicate in English
- Bring a swimsuit and a towel
- Minimum age is 12 years, please reach out regarding younger participants & Participants over the age of 65 need to get a physicians approval
- Be at minimum 150cm (4’9) tall / maximum 200cm (6’7) tall, and be at minimum 50kg (99 lbs) / maximum 120kg (264 lbs)
- Don’t wear glasses, instead bring contact lenses or your own prescription mask (if you have one)
- Recommended to bring a change of clothes (the drysuit has a very small chance of leaking)
- Please dress according to weather - no heal or jeans
- All participants heights, weights and age must be provided to local operator. If you do not provide at time of booking, please contact supplier immediately after booking to provide this information
- Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting, especially around the neck and wrists
- We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks a a base layer under the drysuit
- All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. Please find a link to the medical statement on your ticket voucher right after booking the experience to be sure if you qualify.
- Note: Each guide can assist one group of up to six participants at a time. Up to three different groups can be present during this activity.

So glad I did this!!! A must do in Iceland. - Amazing! I was scared that I would chicken out and so glad that I didn't! I was a solo traveler and was a little anxious I wouldn't have someone to talk to and help calm my nerves, but I was just fine. What an amazing experience. I snorkeled on 2/15/2024 and it was snowing out before our excursion began as we neared the water. The suit is uncomfortable, not going to lie but it keeps you warm and dry and that's the point! The water is so clear and beautiful. Drink the water! It's like nothing you've tasted ever before. I got a little nauseous at the end (sometimes that happens to me when I snorkel) and my guide Kevin was super helpful to me. He stayed with me until we got out of the water and continued to check on me until we made it back to the sprinters. Seriously, he is the BEST! He also took wonderful photos of all of us before we got into the water, and after which was a nice memory to have. If you don't have a picture, it didn't happen! :-)
Thank you again Kevin. You calmed me down and that hot chocolate made my tummy feel so much better after. This is a wonderful excursion to take. Don't let it pass you by!

What an experience!!!! - What an experience!!!
The 1st half is alot of faff, we waited over an hour in pouring rain at a bus stop to be picked up then when you arrive you have to get all kitted out (which is not easy) but once you get in the water it is totally worth it all!
We opted for the dry suits in end as it was so cold, you keep a base layer on then pop a jumpsuit on then the dressing which the instructor help you with, it is very tight and quite uncomfortable but this kept you completely dry and dare I say warm, I wasn't cold at all in water (other people were)
Anil was our instructor and he was brilliant from start to finish. He was very patient with us (some of us were quite nervous)
The water is crystal clear, nothing like I have ever seen, definitely a once in a lifetime / bucketlist experience.highly recommend

Great experience - While I probably wouldn't do this again, it was super cold....I am glad I did and would recommend others to as well! Great experience and top notch service from the driver and guides.
TIPS: The pictures included turned out great, no complaints; however if you have your own GoPro, be sure to bring it. And while the equipment provided was decent, if you have a nice snorkel mask at home, I would recommend that. Also, packs some 'hot hands' hand-warmers, they will prove to be useful.

MAGICAL Silfra snorkelling experience - Unreal experience! Breathtaking and awe inspiring. We were a little nervous about the temperature but the dry suits are fab and the guys at Viking Adventures were amazing, with a prompt pick up from Reykjavik. Our guide, Kevin, kept us at ease throughout - it was a seamless experience that felt safe, fun and laid-back, can’t wait to see the photos!

A unique experience and something for the bucket list. - What a fantastic and fun experience this is. I was a little apprehensive as although I had snorkelled before, it was not in this environment. Kevin and Doris were my guides and they we so lovely and reassuring. As I am short and stout, I had some issues finding a suitable dry suit, but Kevin was so patient making sure I was comfortable but dry. I hadn't been prepared for how long it takes to get all your kit on, but it was definitely worth it. My hair got a little wet as did my hands but otherwise I remained warm and dry throughout. Snorkelling in such clear waters is incredible and Kevin was keen to make sure I enjoyed the experience. Thank you to the team (including our minibus driver who also helped us getting out of our suits). I definitely recommend this as an experience to put on your bucket list. Thanks guys

Would 100% recommend! - We snorkeling on 12/9 with Dory and had an incredible time! She made sure to help us get all of our gear on step-by-step and made sure we knew the plan before getting in the water. Once in the water she got amazing pictures of us!
