What an amazing visit. To be honest we weren't expecting much from this visit but we were pleasantly surprised. - The staff were very friendly upon arrival and very informative. We decided to take the self guided tour and enjoyed every moment of it. What an eerie place but very interesting at the same time. Our best part was the execution room, sent chills down our spines. Probably the worst part for us was finding out the restaurant was quite pricey as was the gift shop, apart from that it was well worth the entrance fee.

Fantastic Experience with my Grandson whose vowed he never wants to be banged up ha ha !!! - My second visit, first one was guided tour which was amazing. This trip had my 7yr old grandson so we went unguided. Amazing what I remembered from the tour, definately made a great impression. My grandson had a great day (3.5hrs) learning about the prison and inmates life. Seeing how the cells had changed through the times, the padded cells and the routines. He was amazed at the execution room and the rope, I explained how different hangmen could make a difference to the length of hanging, he was fascinated by the stories around the walls. It really bought his imagination out and prompted many questions, so made for a fantastic experience for both him and my returning visit.

An excellent incite into prison life through the ages. Grim but very interesting. - A very interesting self tour with lots of boards to read, a vast warren of cells and prison bars on 4 floors. It was informative if somewhat intimidating. A must when in Shrewsbury.

Fascinating, informative and salutary experience - The information and insights tell harrowing tales. How dreadful it was to be incarcerated, even in more recent times. Even the self guided tour was very salutary. Whilst self guided was a very good way to explore and learn from the extensive information boards I would definitely return and join a guided tour. Recommend a visit.

Visiting this prison made me feel (and i'm sure others) that is somewhere i would hate to be in. - A cracking insight to what life must have been like to be locked up in this prison. Great that the place has not changed much since it closed. Nice notifications and explanations of past naughty inmates and the very eerie execution rooms.

Very interesting place. - The trip to the prison was very interesting. Just walking around, imagining what kind of things went on in there. It’s hard to imagine the difference in atmosphere between then and now. It gives a good insight in to the way cells/living changed over the years, and makes you realise how restrictive prison life is. Next to no privacy, probably told what to do at almost every step of the day. Rather them than me! lol If you’re in the area, give the prison a look, well worth the visit.

Great place to visit. When they say it is cold - it IS cold! - Last time I was in Shrewsbury this prison was operational. Hard to imagine that when I visited this week. Great place to visit. Directions could be better. We got lost a few times. Our visit was spoilt slightly by some noisy school children who were not being kept under control by their teachers. Made us realise how noisy it would have been when it was full of prisoners!! Cake and coffee in the cafe to finish the visit

Good visit - When arrived the riund girl didn’t say hello just said what the name and what are you doing, when telling us where to go sounded very robotic and there was no smile, we did a self tour and went back for escape room at 12.30 while waiting around for escape room this same young girl was telling another member of staff how terrible her home life is and how she’d prefer to work her birthday cause she’s not noticed at home… this conversation and more went on for about 15 mins… now i know people have problems but surly your not to discuss in front of customers …. Anyway did the hole escape room and the lady doing that with us was really chatty and got into character and was very helpful… 100% recommend the escape room… next time o think I’d do a guided tour as I’m sore I’d have learnt a lot more doing that than the self guided.
