Tarangire National Park boasts an exceptionally high density of elephants compared to other regions in Tanzania. With its open fields dotted with majestic baobab and thorny acacia trees, it presents a unique and visually stunning destination. Just a short journey from Arusha, Tarangire is a favored choice amongst travelers on the northern safari circuit, en route to Ngorongoro and Serengeti. The park merges into a couple of game controlled regions, permitting wildlife to migrate without restrictions.
Elephant herds numbering as many as 300 individuals dig in the parched riverbeds for subterranean water channels, while nomadic species like wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland gather at the diminishing water holes. This area is second only to the Serengeti ecosystem in terms of wildlife abundance - a veritable feast for carnivores. Additionally, it is the one area in Tanzania where one can frequently spot the elegant fringe-eared oryx and the exotic-looking gerenuk with their elongated necks.
