Cooking a traditional Gambian meal - Myself and my girlfriend went on the cooking tour. It was amazing we saw a traditional Gambian Compound, went to the market to buy fresh food and fish then we returned to the compound to cook two complete meals that would feed 30 people. Being in the open air, seeing the young children and helping with the cooking was delightful.

Add Immediately to Your Vacation Agenda - This was an excellent experience, I would highly recommend adding this to your agenda when visiting the Gambia. The owner, Amadou, opened his home and family up so that we can experience authentic Gambian home cooking. First we changed into traditional clothing. Then wee were able to go to the market, pick out all the ingredients needed for cooking. It was a hands on experience. We cut vegetables, prepped the food, and actually cooked. We also enjoyed Ataya (Gambian Tea) while we cooked. My favorite part was sitting together to enjoy the meal. We ate from one large dish and everything was delicious. By far better than any restaurant (and the food at the Gambian restaurants are tasty). It's a full day experience, but worth the time. We plan on visiting The Gambia again and will make sure to do this tour again to try a different meal.

Experience Gambian life first hand - and get to eat what you cook!! - Fabulous experience from start to finish. My daughter and myself were met promptly at hotel reception by our friendly guide who, with his driver, took us to a Gambian home where we chose the meal we would like to cook. Dressed in Gambian clothes, making the experience even more authentic, we were taken to the market to purchase the necessary ingredients. Didn’t realise that ingredients are purchased fresh every day as they don’t have facilities to keep them fresh! Back at the family home we prepared the ingredients with guidance from our Gambian family. We helped with the whole process of preparing, cooking on the charcoal fires, cleaning the pots, serving the food and finally sharing the meal with the family. Felt fully immersed in this Gambian experienced and quite humbled by the work needed to prepare the meal. Never will I complain about preparing Sunday dinner at home again!! Brilliant experience and learning opportunity. Thank you Black and White Safari - a memorable day!

An adventure in Banjul - This tour was quite an adventure. We were met off the cruise ship by our Black and White safari team. After putting my wheelchair up on the roof of the minivan, we proceeded along some highway and some very rough, unpaved roads to a Gambian family's compound. We were dressed in "African" clothing then proceeded to a very busy, colorful market to purchase food for lunch. This was then cooked, with our participation, outside on braziers. The results were delicious and it was an excellent way of getting a feel for the Gambian family's way of life. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Everyone should do when visiting The Gambia - I never write reviews...never...however today was just superb! Our day starting with a timely pick up from our hotel and a drive to Sally’s house. From there we were given optional traditional dress and taken to Sally’s local market where we bought food of our choice for our cooking class. We chose 2 dishes, both fish and 2 types of juice. When we got to Sally’s we went about preparing and making lunch from gutting the fish to pounding the vegetables. We cooked outside, in traditional style and when we were done preparing (which took a while)we played with Sally’s children and their neighbours. At the end of the day we all sat and ate together what we had made and felt a part of Sally’s family. The most wonderful experience we have had since being here! Black and white safaris has been great and we have avoided any problems.

Saved our honeymoon!! - We're so pleased that we had booked all of our tours with Black and White and not with our tour operator (TC). They were waiting for us at the airport to take us to our hotel, and had arranged for us to go into their office the next day to sort out an itinerary for our 10 days trip. Unfortunately we both ended up with a stomach bug on the third day, but Armstrong worked around us to make sure we didn't miss out on anything. Our tour guide was YaYa for 90% of the time, and he was great. Such a lovely warm person, who was happy to answer any of our questions, and made a special effort to include our requests to see Djembes being made. We also were invited to his home to do the Gambian Home Cooking tour, which was an incredible experience. PomPom our driver was a legend. We always felt safe, and they were both so professional. Our favourite place was Makasutu. If you're going to Gambia, go there! It's the most tranquil, peaceful place I have ever visited, and YaYa made sure we got there before any others arrived. Ya Ya and PomPom went that extra mile on every trip to make sure we were happy. Black and White saved our honeymoon from being a disaster, so thank you! Armstong was excellent at correspondence before we flew out, and Stuart handled all the deposit over in the UK. Black and White is a superb company to go with, so if you are thinking about booking a few tours, choose them, as they are a local firm, with all local knowledge, but extremely professional.

Met our expectations! - We did two tours with Black & White Safari (home cooking and four wheel drive) and they also helped us organize land transport between Dakar and the Gambia. We traveled with our three young children who really enjoyed the experience! We were grateful for all the support provided by Armstrong before and during our trip and are happy to recommend his company!
