- Soesokkak Estuary - Situated in Hahyo-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island, Soesokkak was initially called Soedun due to its resemblance to a reclining cow. The name ‘Soesokkak’ was later adopted as the freshwater and seawater from Hyodoncheon converge to form a deep pool. The name reflects the meanings of iron as a cow, a cow as a puddle, and a sharpened end. Soeso is a valley-like formation created by solidified lava, offering a landscape as intriguing and unique as its name. Soesokkak is a hidden gem in Seogwipo Chilsimni, where deep waters, uniquely shaped lava rocks, and pine forests blend to create stunning scenery. Hahyo-dong, located on the southern slopes of Hallasan Mountain, is renowned for its citrus production, filling the village with a delightful citrus aroma. Nearby attractions include Columnar Joints.
- Jeju Island - In the Jeju dialect, ‘Eong’ means hill. Namwon Keuneong is a hill with a wide-open mouth, resembling a large rock swallowing the sea, hence its name. The cliff’s top is flat and covered with soft grass. Observing the two natural caves facing the sea, where 30m high and 200m long uniquely shaped rock cliffs embrace the waves, evokes the feeling of untouched nature, as if stepping into another world. A 2km walking path along the coastal cliff, an observatory, a simple lounge, basic physical training facilities, and restrooms are available. It is a popular fishing spot, a peaceful retreat, and a romantic date location for couples.
- Jeongbang Waterfall - Jeongbang Falls is one of Jeju Island’s top three waterfalls, alongside Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls. It is the only waterfall in Korea where water cascades directly into the sea. Standing 23m tall, the two streams of water tumbling down the black cliff create a thrilling sound and a breathtaking view. The steep cliffs and ancient pine trees surrounding the falls add to the picturesque scenery, recognized as one of the Ten Scenic Sights of Yeongju, known as “Jeongbanghapok.” Legend has it that the words ‘Seobulgwacha’ are inscribed on the cliffs of Jeongbang Falls. According to lore, a man named Seobul visited the island seeking an elixir plant on the orders of China’s Qin Shu Huangdi long ago. Failing to find the plant, he headed west to return to China but was captivated by Jeongbang Falls, leading him to inscribe “Seobulgwacha” on the cliff.
- Oedolgae - Oedolgae, the starting point of Jeju Olle Trail Course 7, is a 20m high stone pillar rising from the sea. Standing alone, it is named ‘Oedolgae’. It is also referred to as ‘General Stone’ and ‘Grandma Rock’. A tale tells of General Choi Yeong adorning this rock like a general during a battle against the Yuan Dynasty, causing the enemy to self-destruct. For the origin of the name ‘Grandma Rock’, refer to the legend below. The visible rocks and the life of Jeju residents awaiting the return of seafarers can be observed. These stone pillars are believed to have formed during a volcanic eruption. A chimney-shaped stone pillar, where surrounding rocks are eroded by waves leaving only strong rocks, is scientifically termed a sea stack. Pine trees naturally grow atop Oedolgae.
- Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff - The waves crashing refreshingly open up the heart, and the columnar joints on the coast in the eastern part of the Jungmun Tourist Complex, surrounded by dark red hexagonal stone pillars intricately stacked like a divine carving, resemble a folding screen. This natural wonder allows one to appreciate the grandeur and intricacy of nature simultaneously. It is a tourist attraction and a designated cultural property monument of Jeju Island. Observing the columnar joints formed due to ancient tectonic shifts, it seems as if the poignant tale of a mason is conveyed in the white crumbling foam. When the waves are strong, they create a spectacular sight with waves rising over 20 meters high. It is a favored tourist spot due to its natural beauty.
- Cheonjiyeon Waterfall - At Cheonjiyeon Falls, white water cascades from the rock cliff, creating a thunderous sound. Its name means “sky connected with land.” The waterfall is 22m high and 12m wide, and the view and sound of the falling waters are magnificent. Not only does it feature Elaeocarpus, designated as Natural Monument 163, but also a variety of temperate plants such as brambles, Psilotum nudum (L.) Griseb., Siebold’s chinquapin, Shiny xylosma, and camellias thrive in the valley near Cheonjiyeon Falls. It is also renowned for the Natural Habitat for Giant Mottled Eels (Natural Monument 27), which are nocturnal.
- Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market - Seogwipo Olle Market is the largest market in Seogwipo-si and a traditional market that emerged spontaneously in the early 1960s. Beginning with a 120m arcade in 2001, a total of 620m of arcades have been installed, playing a crucial role in Seogwipo’s economy. The parking lot offers maximum convenience with a 1-hour free parking system and features a delivery service that delivers goods to the desired location for free, enhancing the shopping experience for customers. Additionally, it includes an outdoor performance hall and a park with a fountain, catering to future potential customers, particularly teenagers.
