Seongsan Ilchulbong - 성산일출봉 (Seongsan Ilchulbong)
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, a prominent attraction in Jeju, emerged approximately 5,000 years ago due to a volcanic eruption on the ocean floor. It is renowned as a prime location for witnessing the sunrise, celebrated as one of Jeju Island’s top ten breathtaking views. Besides sunrise viewing, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone is also a favored trekking destination. The Seongsan-Ojo Trail links two villages by traversing the peak. Another well-liked path, the Jijil Trail, provides an intimate view of the UNESCO-designated geopark and Jeju’s local culture. Walking along these trails is highly recommended to fully appreciate the area; reaching the summit offers panoramic views of the expansive volcanic crater and the surrounding blue ocean. To complete the visit, head to Seongsanpo Port to observe the haenyeo (female divers) in action. -
Seongeup Folk Village - 성읍민속마을 (Seongeup Folk Village)
This entire village, preserving the historical living site of old Jeju inhabitants, has been designated as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage. Although it can be considered a folk village, it differs from typical ones as it is still inhabited. The village residents volunteer as guides, providing visitors with a wealth of information. The Saw-leaf Zelkova and Japanese hackberry trees in the village center are noteworthy attractions. -
Woljeongri Beach - 월정리 해변 (Woljeong-ri Beach)
Famous for its stunning scenery, white sand, and emerald waters, Jeju Woljeong-ri Beach features a road lined with tea houses and coffee shops. It is an excellent stopover during a trip to Jeju Island and one of the few places to enjoy an exotic view. - Haenyeo Museum - Jeju haenyeo are the resilient mothers of Jeju and the spiritual backbone of its residents. The lifestyle of the Jeju haenyeo community serves as a model for humanity. Jeju haenyeo formed a merit-based community, making democratic decisions through discussions. They cared for the elderly and infirm, such as Halmang Badang and Geseok, and used their earnings to support society, including villages and schools. They also devised various methods to coexist with the sea, such as beach sweeping, gold snatching, and dialysis. Jeju haenyeo culture was recognized for its significance and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 30, 2016 (local time).
- Gwangchigi Beach - Gwangchigi Beach offers one of the most pristine and breathtaking views along Jeju’s coastline. In the distance lies Seongsan Sunrise Peak, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and a gem of Jeju Island. The area features numerous trendy cafes and restaurants, as well as travel accommodations and family-friendly activities, like the Aquaplanet Aquarium. It is also where Olle walking trails 1 and 2 converge.
- Manjanggul Lava Tube - The Manjanggul Lava Tube stretches approximately 7.4 km and is partially multilayered. The main tunnel is 18m wide and 23m high, making it one of the largest lava tubes globally. While many lava tubes exist worldwide, Manjanggul Lava Tube is particularly significant due to its ancient formation and excellent preservation, making it invaluable to researchers and scientists. Due to the ceiling’s collapse, there are three entrances, with tourists permitted to use the second entrance, allowing access up to 1 km. The Lava Tunnel in Manjanggul Lava Tube features various cave formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, lava tubes, lava shelves, and lava rafts. Notably, the lava column at the end of the tourist area stands at about 7.6m high, recognized as the tallest lava column in the world.
