Hiking in Wadi in the morning - Must do
We arrived at the Wadi car park at 8:15 am and I think it’s a perfect time to start the experience, we did the hike almost alone, on the return however we met a lot of people who were heading towards the wadi
Hiking to access the Wadi is widely accessible, we have read many reviews saying it was dangerous/ vertiginous. We are both dizzy and there was only one time when we were not comfortable, but it was largely doable!
Small negative but not insurmountable point, once you get into all the rocks that you have to cross, there is no longer really a path and there are arrows to indicate the right road, but these arrows lead a bit anywhere. Although they will always lead you to a safe place, some paths are much simpler than others. On the way we came across a group with a guide who told us to follow them to go through the easy path, but on the way back we came across a path a little more difficult to pass (without it being dangerous at any time).
Providing good shoes, we were in classic basketball and it was very good, we met a lot of people in tap and that is surely where it becomes dangerous. The rock can be slippery at times, and a lot of rocks on the way so good shoes are needed.
The reward of Wadi is well worth it. As almost 100% of the people we went to the cave, the passage to access it is narrow but the sighting of the end of the cave removes any anxiety to pass there. Once in the cave, there is a waterfall that can be climbed to access a natural swimming pool up high. The climb is easy to rope, the rock does not slip at all. The descent is done by jumping from the waterfall, no danger as long as you look where you step.
I had personally rented a lifejacket (1OMR in the parking lot) and my spouse had not taken one. We didn’t regret having one, swimming is very easy and there are places where you can catch your breath but overall I especially enjoyed being able to enjoy the landscape without having to worry about swimming and just let myself be carried.
Provide water for hiking because despite beautiful areas in the shade, part of the path is in full sun, and even at 8:30 in October it was very hot!
Also provide a waterproof bag for personal effects that you do not want to leave on the side at the beginning of the wadi. For all the things that it is not possible to take in the wadi, it is possible to leave them on the edge at the beginning of the wadi, it is very safe no one steals anything and it is very pleasant!

Spectacular - The Wadi Shab is definitively a must see, and this trip was absolutely worth. As useful information to other guests we would like to pinpoint a couple of aspects of the trek, as we feel it may not be sufficiently clearly explained to the public. 1) The path itself is an easy & relatively flat mountain trail, with some narrow passages, where care must be exercised and for someone vertigo could kick in. Good shoes are recommended. It’s about 1h walk and heat should not be underestimated. In our situation, on Sept 8th morning, the temperature was already around 38C and stones were hot. 2) Water is warm and calm but pools are deep (you cannot touch the bottom) and therefore require adequate stamina & swimming skills to be able to always float and cross them. Life vests, if necessary, can be hired at the start of the trek. 3) Many rocks are *very* slippery, even with water shoes. 4) The entrance to the (gorgeous) cave is a notorious narrow passage (see youtube videos) and must be done by either swimming below water or skillfully shift the head between the rocks above water level, while keeping afloat & swimming forward, therefore challenging for a claustrophobic or aquaphobic person. But the reward is unforgettable!

Beautiful an oasis of relaxation and fun - After a quiet walk, you arrive in beautiful places, full of charm, natural pool where you can dive. Continuing with the visit there are other places where you can swim and you can advance until you get to a fabulous cave with a waterfall inside. It's totally worth it. Upon arrival you pay an OM R a small journey with the boat that leads to the beginning of the trail.

Beautiful experience - We decided not to book a tour and did the Wadi Shab hike ourselves. It was the best decision as the hike is very easy and at least then you can stay for as long as you want and enjoy the natural pools. It’s all free and you only need 1 OR per person to cross in the little boats.
You will need:
*A waterproof bag- the ones that they sell there are NOT waterproof and if those bags do go under water all your stuff will be soaked.
* A cover for your cellphone to take videos and photos and a waterproof pouch for keys
* cold water - if you can - try and carry an ice pack because with the heat- your water becomes terrible hot.
* snacks especially if you want to spend extra time there and relax because the hike and swim does deplete your energy in the heat.
*a cap, sunglasses, sunblock and comfortable hiking shoes or water shoes
The heat can get to you, especially if you hike during midday so be prepared and stay hydrated. It’s really a beautiful experience.

Excellent - a great trip - We went to Wadi Shab as part of a private tour. It was breathtaking. Our tour guide Nasser made all the arrangements, covering the initial boat ride and his contact of a young man to escort us - to my shame I have forgotten his name.
It is a wonderful experience. Beautiful scenery, part hike part swim, ending ( if you go that far ) with a cave and small waterfall. Don’t be put off at the initial river crossing!
Wear old walking shoes - you leave these when you go for a swim so you might not want to leave expensive shoes. Equally, the walk was a flip flop graveyard so don’t be tempted! The walk is very gravelly and narrow at points, climbing rocky bits too so wear appropriate shoes.
It’s also worth bringing a cheap pair of beach shoes for the swim part - the are parts where you walk across stoney stretches where you will be grateful!
I was grateful to have a guide with us - he knew the better paths to take, where to leave stuff, etc. For example, we saw people who had thought they’d reached the end when there was so much more to see. Also, he gave us confidence to leave our stuff (no valuables).
On the swim, take goggles but no loose sunglasses, etc (our guide dived for a good few bits of treasure along the way!)
Remember, there are still mountain dwellers and donkeys who deserve respect and should be allowed on their way unhindered.
By wearing a swimsuit under a light floaty dress, or swim shorts with t-shirt once you finish swimming you can throw these back on easily and will try on the walk back.
The views are stunning and most will feel it is something they’ve never experienced before

Incredible water to swim in - The first wadi is reached fairly close by the canoe walk, a 10-15 minute walk. Then it’s a gruelling 45-minute or so hike including rock scrambles to reach the next wadi in a canyon. SO worth it despite the excruciating heat midday and lack of shade. The water is clear, warm and clean. I’m only dinking a star bc there is rubbish by the site (but not in the water) and overflowing rubbish bin en route. Really shameful of the government or whoever runs the site to not clean this up!

Too noisy and messy - Place is too crowded probably due to Eid Vacation. Location has poor organization, too much mess with lots of noice. Some people doing barbequing in such a lovely place creating bad smokes. I was really disappointed.
However nature wise a beautiful location to visit

Plastic, plastic and more plastic! - The wadi itself is really gorgeous, but whats with all the plastic?
We swam all the way up to the cave, but it was not a nice experience! Plastic bottles, plastic lids, food wrappings, bagage tags etc. was EVERYWHERE in and around the water. And the walk from boat to the pools is also littered with plastic bottles.
It looks awfull! Shame on you humanity!
