Highlights
  • The Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive Center - We will meet in downtown Seattle and drive northeast for 1.5 hours to Skagit River, which is at the foothills of the North Cascade Mountain Range. Here along the river there are many bald eagles nesting in December and January and they are easy to spot in the trees or flying above the river. We will drive to good viewing areas up and down the river between the small towns of Rockport and Marblemount.
    We will have some snacks at Steelhead Park which is also a good place for eagle spotting and we will learn about the bald eagles at the Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive Center in Rockport.

  • Arlington - We make a stop in a logging town, Arlington where there is a little exhibit about the Suak Suiattle Indian Tribe and the history in the area. We also drive through the Suak Suiattle Indian Tribe reservation near the old town of Darrington on our way back to downtown Seattle.

Additional Information

We are going to observe bald eagles in their natural environment, nesting and soaring over the aesthetically pleasing Skagit River in the Cascades. The spotting areas by the river between Rockport and Newhalem will enable us to identify the bald eagles in their nests and view their hunting maneuvers for fish, birds, and other wildlife. At the Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive Center, located in Rockport, we will enhance our knowledge about these magnificent creatures. We will also explore the stunning waterfalls and basins in Newhalem and Diablo Lake within the North Cascades National Park. Our journey from and to Seattle will showcase breathtaking landscapes of forests and mountains, an enjoyable visit to the logging town of Arlington, and a passage through the Suak Suiattle Indian Tribe Reservation near the historic town of Darrington.
